Western Europe: New Car Sales Down 15,5% In August

LMC Automotive data for the last month shows that Western Europe (plus the UK) ended the month with a 15,5% drop in new car sales, reaching 786 units from 292 in August 930.

The main European markets also saw the largest declines, with France down 19,8% to 103 units (631 in August 129), Germany down 259% to 2019 (20) and down 251% in Spain. The UK and Italy ended August with smaller declines of 044% and 313% respectively.

Both in August and at the end of the first eight months of the year, all Western European markets reported declines in new car sales.

The overall decline in Western Europe from January to August was 33,1% to 6 units. The largest decline in business was observed in Portugal - by 537% to 439 vehicles, the smallest - in Finland - by 42% to 92 units.
