We protect ourselves and the "iron horse": how to properly prepare the garage for winter

Mountains of "necessary", old skis, rusty bicycles, bald tires and other "treasures". Everything is flooded with water, covered with dust and mold. Junkyard branch? No - this is an average Russian garage. To put it in order and still get the opportunity to park the car in winter, you should make little effort.

A warm and dry garage is the dream of the vast majority of car owners. Everyone else already has it. But hands rarely reach their own "technical premises", and the lion's share of Russian "boxes" become just a shed, a transit point between the house and the dacha, where you can’t put the car anymore - there is no place. To solve this problem, it’s enough just to spend the weekend and clean up once. And now, on the last warm and dry weekend of autumn, the best time for this.

The first step, of course, is to get rid of the garbage, which is more than enough in any garage. If the item has not been used for a year, it is unlikely to be useful. Tires from an old car that has been sold for five years, torn clothes and empty cans should be taken to the trash can or posted on the bulletin board. Want to get rid of it quickly? Sell cheap or give away for free - there will be someone who wants to pick it up instantly, you don’t even have to carry it to the trash can.

After vacating the room, look around the roof and walls. Leaks and waterfalls will spoil not only the trash stored in the garage, but also the car, because there is nothing worse for a car than a cold and wet garage. The ideal option is to repair the roof by covering it with new corrugated board or replacing the roofing material, but this will cost money that is not there anyway. So we localize the problem areas, the simplest tourist burner with a gas cylinder and patch the gaps with pieces of insulation. Does not the soul lie to the fire? Use building foam, which will also do the job.

Having got rid of leaks, you need to organize the space: even after the disposal of rubbish, there will not be enough space for a car in a standard garage. “Boxes” are different: wide and narrow, short and long, so the idea of shelving is not for everyone.

But the place under the ceiling can be used almost always: it will comfortably accommodate not only skis that no one has worn for 15 years, but also a variety of belongings. The same can be said about the gate, which is usually not used in any way. For example, it is best to hang a snow shovel on them. Are you afraid that it will fall on the car? Well, make a mount that will definitely save you from this bad luck!

The key point in preparing for the winter regime is to remove everything from the floor, except for a couple of canisters with anti-freeze. The tool - in the organizer on the wall or in boxes on the shelves, tires on your rack cell, a bicycle - under the ceiling, camping equipment - in the warmest and driest corner.

Before enjoying the result, it is worth remembering the “winter set”: sand and salt bags should be as close to the gate as possible, a crowbar to break the ice is unpleasant to carry from the back wall every time, and liquid for defrosting locks is not needed in inside the car and outside.
