Geneva Motor Show will be launched no earlier than 2022

Pandemic cost organizers 11 million Swiss francs

The organizers of the Geneva Motor Show have announced that the next edition will take place no earlier than 2022.

According to the official website of the event, the abolition of the salon in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic led to losses for the organizers of 11 million Swiss francs. The car dealership turned to the authorities of the canton of Geneva for a loan of 16,8 million Swiss francs, but in the end refused because of disagreement with the terms of the loan.

The organizers of the Geneva exhibition explained that they were not ready to transfer project management to outside organizations, and also did not agree with the requirement to hold a salon in 2021, given the current crisis in the automotive industry. As a result, after the refusal of the state loan, the salon organizers will hold it no earlier than 2022.

It is known that the Geneva Motor Show, which has been held since 1905, was canceled for the first time in its history in 2020.
