Geneva Motor Show: Hyundai unveils two hybrid SUV concepts
The Geneva Motor Show provided an opportunity for car manufacturers to showcase their know-how in terms of technological development. Korean Hyundai was among those who excelled with two hybrid car concepts: the Tucson plug-in hybrid and the Tucson mild hybrid.
Tucson becomes a hybrid
Hyundai previously unveiled the hybrid car concept at the Detroit show. The Korean manufacturer is doing it again with the Tucson plug-in hybrid unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. Under the hood is a 115 horsepower diesel engine and an electric motor that develops 68 horsepower. The power of the engines, split between forward and reverse, allows the concept to use four-wheel drive as needed. According to information provided by Hyundai, the electric motor guarantees a range of 50 km and lowers CO2 emissions, as even when using a hybrid engine, they do not exceed 48 g / km.
Lightly hybridized Tucson
Besides the plug-in hybrid concept, Hyundai is also offering its SUV with another hybrid engine known as mild hybridization. According to the manufacturer, it is an effective and cost-effective solution to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and fuel consumption. The concept uses 48V hybrid technology developed by the manufacturer: it uses a 136 horsepower diesel engine, but this time it is linked to a 14 horsepower electric motor, 54 horsepower less than the plug-in hybrid version. The release date has not yet been announced by the manufacturer.
