What is a liquid locker for and how does it work?
The essence of the work of a liquid locker (or liquid fender liner) lies in the name. It comes from one of the variations in the translation of the English word Lock, which means "lock". The main function of a liquid locker is precisely the isolation, "locking" of the metal and thus protecting it from the effects of destructive environmental factors.
After application, the locker, being in a liquid state, actively penetrates into all micropores and under the hard-to-reach texture of the metal surface. In parallel, water is displaced to the surface, since lockers have hydrophobic properties.
Peeling flakes of rust are enveloped in the composition and isolated from both the environment and further contact with the metal. After all, it is known that to prevent the growth of corrosion centers, it is not enough just to protect the metal from water and air. Metal oxides contain enough oxygen and hydrogen in their composition to continue the spread of corrosion to a certain level even in complete isolation from the environment.
Liquid fenders have the property of soundproofing. This composition, of course, cannot be compared with a full-fledged pasting with soundproofing materials, but with the right approach it can reduce the noise level in the cabin by several decibels.
It is important to understand that liquid locker is not a corrosion inhibitor, and even more so does not break down rust, as special etchants do. It only insulates the body metal by forming a relatively thick protective layer of several millimeters. The crust from the frozen locker has good plasticity and at the same time surface strength. Therefore, liquid wheel arch liners also effectively resist mechanical loads (point effects of sand and small stones flying out from under the wheels, vibration and thermal deformation).

The protective composition for the car body "Hors" is produced in aerosol cans, which has gained popularity among motorists of the Russian Federation. Manipulations with the brush are inconvenient and often require a pit or lift. But it is easier to apply a locker from a cylinder, even taking into account the fact that at least minimal pasting of mating body elements is required to prevent the composition from getting on them.
Car owners generally speak well of the Horse liquid locker. The most common statements are:
- the product is easy to apply from a can and has excellent adhesion even with unprepared surfaces;
- the effect of displacement of moisture is noticeable to the naked eye: fine drops of water appear on the surface of the first layer;
- subjectively prepared protective crust is somewhat thinner than similar formulations such as Nippon Ace lockers or Dinitrol 479 liquid fender liner;
- there is a sound insulation effect, and it is comparable in terms of result with compositions similar in purpose;
- the elasticity of the fully hardened composition allows it to easily absorb small stones flying into the surface film without destroying the layer itself and damaging the metal underneath;
The composition is kept on the treated surface in the average mode of operation (without extreme loads) from 3 years and longer.

The Nippon Ace locker is also popular in Russia. This composition mainly processes potentially problematic areas of the car: the bottom, arches and sills. Motorists note several empirically obtained facts about the composition of Nippon Ace:
- the consistency of the locker is highly dependent on the ambient temperature: in the summer, in the heat, the agent liquefies to the state of motor oil, at a negative temperature it solidifies and turns into a resinous substance;
- when applied, it exudes a noticeable chemical smell, which disappears as the locker hardens and disappears almost completely after a few weeks;
- it is undesirable to treat accessible surfaces with the composition (bottoms of doors, the edge of the trunk lid, etc.), with which contact can potentially be made, since the locker remains sticky for quite a long time (about a month) and can stain clothes or human skin;
- there is a soundproofing effect for the arches, but it is not so pronounced that it can be seriously considered as the main and sufficient one;
- The protection created by the locker, depending on the climatic conditions and the nature of the operation of the car, lasts for 3-5 years.
In general, motorists consider it justified to invest in the purchase and processing of Nippon Ace arches and thresholds with a Nippon Ace locker. Especially for cars in which these places are initially structurally vulnerable.
