Loft-style coffee table - which living room is right for you? Which to choose?

Loft style, industrial and modern is becoming a new, popular standard in interior design trends. The austerity of the interior, combined with cozy accessories, gives an effect that pleases the eye. What characterizes loft-style furniture? Which table to choose for this style?

The loft style came to us from across the ocean - it comes from the USA, or rather from New York. The factories there, located in the city center, slowly began to move to its outskirts, thus freeing up large workshops and warehouses. The city authorities have adapted them for housing, much cheaper and more affordable for less wealthy residents. They decided to hire many artists - they created their workshops there.

Loft literally translates from English as "attic" or "attic", and it also had the impression of apartments converted from industrial buildings. Initially modest, associated with the soullessness of the city, the buildings gained more and more supporters. Rough brick walls, large windows, and exposed architectural elements such as metal pipes or radiators have become associated with something positive, even desirable, in an interior. They inspired visual warming and domestication through the use of appropriate light, upholstered chairs, pillows and rugs.

The popularity of this style was mainly influenced by New York artists. Through their skill and creativity, they reshaped spaces to become habitable, and even going even further, they constituted a work of art in their own right. At some point, they became a symbol of the life of a big city.

What are the features of the loft style?

In Poland, it is difficult to find interiors that would meet the requirements of a loft from the very beginning. To achieve this style in your home, you must organize it based on certain rules. What are the features of the loft?

  • large open studio with high ceilings; there is often a mezzanine;
  • exposing bricks on the wall or leaving them in an untreated state;
  • warm woody tones interspersed with cold black metal;
  • large windows, preferably multi-storey, although it is known that in our conditions it will be extremely difficult to do this;
  • Exposed structural elements - ceiling beams, ceilings, visible pipes and metal railings;
  • pleasant yellowish lighting that makes the interior more comfortable;
  • minimalism and economy in furnishing;
  • characteristic colors - concrete gray, cold white, brick red.

Loft-style coffee table - how will it differ from classic tables?

Loft-style furniture is primarily a combination of warm shades of wood and black metal. This is an extremely fashionable combination, willingly used not only in industrial, but also in minimalist or elegant style.

Industrial coffee tables therefore, they must be made of this type of material, and at the same time look quite ascetic. They should be practical and modest in form - colors and decorations will play a crucial role in this interior. It is good to follow a rule that works well when choosing the height of the table top in relation to the adjacent sofa - it should be 2-5 cm lower than it in order to be able to maintain the appropriate composition and not clutter up the seating area.

Is the shape of a loft-style coffee table more important?

The shape of the furniture does not matter much in this style of interior design. It should be adjusted only to the sofa or chair next to which it will stand. Well, if it is ½ or 2/3 the width of the sofa, then it is easier to combine such figures, i.e. rectangular stand with a rectangular or square table. This will allow you to maintain ideal proportions that will not disturb the visual harmony of the living room or lounge area in the open space.

Round coffee table in loft style is the choice that works best with freestanding chairs, it will look best between them, whether they are placed across or diagonally. Here, too, the rule applies regarding the height of the tabletop - this time, not the seat, but the armrests determine the level, from which they subtract about 2-5 cm, thus achieving its ideal location.

Interesting solutions and unusual shapes - an original loft-style coffee table

In the industrial style and loft style, minimalism and space saving are important. However, this does not mean that the furniture should immediately get bored! Currently, there are many pieces of furniture of unusual shapes and original solutions on the market. For example - an ordinary simple table will become a significant decoration of the entire interior, if instead of simple legs you buy an option with an openwork frame.

The same applies to the countertop - instead of choosing between classic geometric shapes, you can bet on hexagons or octagons. The repetition of this motif in the form of frames on the wall or mirrors will make the whole room complete.

They also look great tables in loft style modular, i.e. those that, depending on the needs, can be connected or expanded to create additional space. Usually they consist of two or three similar-looking elements of different sizes, which can be placed one below the other or next to each other in an interesting composition.

Loft-style interiors are rooms in which the austerity of building materials is combined with the cozy warmth of light and accessories. This combination of two completely opposite features makes the decor intriguing. Luckily, you don't have to buy an abandoned factory or old warehouse to get the same effect. All you need is a well thought out selection of accessories, furniture and wall colors to give your apartment an offbeat, industrial feel.
