Winter wipers. Advice on how to take care of them

Winter wipers. Advice on how to take care of them Watching used cars shows that drivers are saving money on windshield washer fluid and windscreen wipers. First of all, this can be recognized by the scratches on the windshield.

The back glass usually looks no better. Rear wipers work to the last blood or until they start to leave deep marks on the rear window. It also happens that drivers forget about the rear wiper on and drive miles without turning it off, although it has not rained for an hour. Winter wipers have an exceptionally hard life.

What ruins wipers? Of course, largely careless use, but the main enemy of rubber is UV radiation. Sunlight is detrimental to rubber parts. In autumn and winter, pollution, frost and ice are the most dangerous. Pollution is most often leaves that fall between the windshield and windshield, as well as a large amount of sand, which, along with water thrown from under the wheels of other cars, falls on our windows. You can fight this by frequent harvesting of leaves from the stone and frequent washing of glass. It is also worth wiping the bottom of the glass with a paper towel every few days at the place where the wipers stop.

If the windows are covered with frost, of course, we scrub them carefully. Remember not to damage the seals with a scraper. If we don't have a doormat, plastic loyalty cards are perfect. Of course, only in emergencies. You can also use an aerosol de-icer, but it is absolutely impossible to remove frost, as is often the case, i.e. splashing the windshield with a lot of liquid and turning on the wipers. When there is ice and frozen snow on the windshield, all that remains is to scrape it off.

If in this case you turn on the wipers, then you have to take into account several versions of events. They are all nasty. It may seem that nothing will happen, so the wipers will not budge. Because they are frozen. If they don't vibrate, it could mean a blown fuse or a very heavy load on the motor, which can cause it to overheat and burn out. If you turn off the wipers quickly, you need to watch if they retract a little. If not, turn off the ignition and remove them from the glass. It may also be that the wipers will move and move across the ice. The sound that accompanies this makes us aware of what is happening with the wiper blades at the moment. The wiper mechanism may also be damaged.

What wipers to use? Of course, to match our car. We should not use shorter wipers. This limits the field of view. Longer wipers seem to increase this field, but it is worth checking whether the areas being cleared really give us a better chance to assess the situation on the road. Remember that the longer the wiper blade, the greater the load on the motor and mechanisms.

If factory wipers with spoilers are installed on our car, let's say the same thing. Very often, the savings of buying a wiper without a spoiler will result in the working wiper breaking away from the glass above a certain speed, reducing its effectiveness to zero. Don't forget about the build system. There is no place for coincidences here. Either everything can be mounted qualitatively, or not. Any combination can damage the blades, levers, mechanism and the glass itself.
