Winter car. What do you need to remember before traveling?

In winter, preparing a car for driving is of particular importance, which is why it is so important to devote the right amount of time to it. Renault Driving School instructors remind you to keep your car free of snow and ice, and regularly check the condition of your windshield wipers and headlights.

Snow removal from your vehicle is essential to your safety. This should not be underestimated, even if we are in a great hurry. Snow falling from the roof while driving can get on the windshield or rear window, limiting our visibility and endangering other drivers. We must not forget the headlights and the license plate of the car, says Adam Bernard, director of training at the Renault Driving School.

Many drivers also do not care about sufficient cleaning of windows from ice. It is not enough to use an ice scraper on the part of the windshield directly in front of the driver, as our goal should be to maximize our field of vision. It is equally important to clean the side mirrors.

If the windows are frozen from the inside, we must ensure that moisture does not accumulate in our car. Check the condition of the door and tailgate seals and wipe your shoes and clothing thoroughly before getting into the car. It is also important to clean windows regularly, as moisture settles on dirty glass more easily.

Regular ventilation of the car is also important, say instructors from the Renault Driving School.

At the same time, remember that we need a certain amount of time to clear the car of snow or ice. Even when we are in a hurry, speeding up this process by turning on the engine and adjusting the airflow to the windows is not a good idea. Stopping for more than a minute while the engine is running is illegal and may result in a fine.

Washer and wiper fluid

In winter, due to rain or dirt on the road, the windows get dirty much faster, which is why it is so important to regularly check the condition of the wipers and washer fluid level. It is very important to use good quality winter windshield washer fluid, otherwise it may freeze on the windshield or in the reservoir.

Lights are the foundation

Regardless of the season, the condition of the headlights should be checked from time to time. They should be free of snow, ice and mud, but the main thing is their efficiency. We will probably notice pretty quickly that the bulb in the low beam headlights has burned out, but you should also regularly check the operation of the remaining lamps. For example, a faulty brake light or indicator could confuse other drivers and cause a collision.
