In winter, do not forget about the battery

In winter, do not forget about the battery At low temperatures, the battery is especially vulnerable to damage, so it is worth taking care of this device in our car.

In winter, do not forget about the battery New batteries are equipped with a special indicator that will show us how charged they are. There is usually an instruction manual on the case to help you read the values. Most often, it has the form of a diode that changes color, for example, green means that everything is in order, red - that the device is half charged, and black - that it is discharged.

We can also check the charge level of our battery using a special device - a multimeter (you can buy it, for example, in an auto parts store or from an electrician). Use in accordance with the attached instructions. We connect the cables to the terminals and read the value from the screen. The correct reading is more than 12 volts, the optimal one is 12,6-12,8. If we do not want to buy this device, we can carry out such a measurement in any car repair shop.

The battery posts are connected to the rest of the car's electrical system by positive and negative clamps. By default, plus is marked in red, and minus in black. We must remember this and not confuse the cables. This can damage the car's internal computers, especially in new cars. Good adhesion of clamps and posts will ensure proper current flow, so both parts need to be cleaned periodically. They may appear blue-white bloom. Work with protective gloves.

At the very beginning, we dismantle the clamps. Depending on the car model, we will have to unscrew them with a screwdriver or loosen the clamp. We clean all the elements with a wire brush. A special tool for cleaning clamps and clamps may also come in handy.

We must also invest in terminal preparation that protects them from contamination and also improves current flow through the contacts. Spray the individual elements, then connect all the parts. PLUS

Service and maintenance-free batteries

Nowadays, most cars are equipped with so-called batteries. maintenance-free, which, as the name suggests, does not allow us to do much in terms of repairing or improving their performance. In the event of a breakdown, in most cases you have to think about replacing the battery with a new one.

Service batteries were popular in older car models. In such a situation, we can do more, first of all, replenish the electrolyte level. The plastic case is mostly transparent, and we can see the liquid level inside (the MIN - minimum and MAX - maximum marks came in handy).

The battery heats up during operation, so the water contained in the electrolyte naturally evaporates.

To top up the liquid level, you need to remove the cover (most often you need to unscrew five or six screws). Now we can add distilled water. However, we must remember that the maximum level must not be exceeded. If you overdo it, there is a risk that the electrolyte will leak out of the battery and cause corrosion of nearby parts.
