Holden VXR badge will live on PSA Group's hybrids and electric vehicles: reports

The VXR badge is currently glued to the fastest Commodore.

GM's fast-driving VXR badge will live on after the takeover of Opel and Vauxhall by the PSA group, while the performance tag will be used for the French group's future hybrids and electric vehicles.

The history of Australia with the VXR badge is not as deep as in the UK, where it was applied to HSV Clubsport and GTS models exported to England, as well as locally built high performance cars.

In Australia, it was glued to the rear of the Astra VXR and is currently being used on the fastest version of the new Holden Commodore, powered by a 6kW V235 engine with 381Nm of torque.

But while French manufacturer PSA Group's takeover of the Opel and Vauxhall brands means the VXR badge will live on in Europe, whether Holden, still owned by GM, will be able to use it in the future remains to be seen.

“Given the stringent emissions regulations, we hit the sweet spot,” Vauxhall product manager Naomi Gasson told British publication AutoCar. “There is a lot of talk about electrification and hybrids that can still get more power, but without the impact on emissions and CO2 emissions.

"That doesn't mean the VXR is dead."
