Disabled sign on the car - what does it give?

People with disabilities according to the traffic rules have the right to drive a car, provided that their condition allows them to do so. In order to inform other road users that this vehicle is driven by a disabled person, special information signs are used - “Disabled driving”.

This is a yellow square with a side length of at least 15 centimeters. We see a schematic representation of a person in a wheelchair.

Only people with disabilities of the first and second groups have the right to hang this sign on the windshield or rear window of their car. It is also allowed to be used by those persons who are not classified as such, but they have to transport disabled people, for example, members of their family.

You should also pay attention to the sign "Deaf driver". It is a yellow circle with a diameter of at least 16 centimeters, with three black dots located at the vertices of an imaginary triangle. This plate marks those cars that are driven by deaf or deaf-mute drivers.

Where to install the sign "Disabled driving"?

The main provisions for the approval of the vehicle for operation indicate only that such plates can be installed on the front or rear window.

An important point - you can do it only at the request of the driver, which is optional. The specific location is not specified.

That is, in this case, we can start from a simple rule - any stickers on the front or rear glass must be installed so as not to reduce visibility. From this we can conclude that the most optimal places for installing these signs are:

• upper right corner of the windshield (driver's side);
• upper or lower left corner of the rear window.

In principle, these signs can be hung on the rear window anywhere, since there are no direct instructions regarding their location. The main thing is that they do not block your view and be visible from afar by other road users.

Is a Disabled Driving Sign required?

In the same rules for admission, we find that the installation of the sign "Disabled at the wheel" is carried out exclusively at the request of the owner of the car.

There are no penalties for its absence.

If we talk about the sign "Deaf driver", then it is one of the mandatory signs. However, many drivers neglect this requirement, since there is no liability for its absence either. Although the driver will not be able to pass a scheduled technical inspection without this sign.

Benefits for disabled driving

We see that the sign "Disabled driver" is not mandatory - no one has the right to force a person to openly demonstrate to others that he has any health problems.

But do not forget that it is the presence of the “Disabled Driving” sign that allows the driver to enjoy some advantages over other drivers. First of all, such signs as: “Movement of mechanical vehicles is prohibited”, “Movement is prohibited”, “Parking is prohibited”. Also, according to the law, at least ten percent of parking spaces for the disabled must be allocated in any parking lot. True, the order specifies what is meant special vehicles. But since such cars are not produced in our time, but only the controls in vehicles are being re-equipped, the presence of the “Disabled driver” sign is sufficient for parking in places for the disabled.

I must say that many quite healthy drivers, referring to the fact that their family has disabled people of the first or second group, hang this sign and enjoy all these benefits. Here we are faced with a very difficult question about the legal justification for the installation of this sign. If earlier the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was in effect that the corresponding mark was put in the STS, today this requirement has been canceled.

In this case, it is necessary to proceed from the moral qualities of the person himself.

There is a superstition among drivers - if you take a parking space for a disabled person, then everything is possible that after a while you yourself will have to glue such a sign on the car.

Thus, the disabled sign is not mandatory. Moreover, many disabled people consider it offensive to themselves and do not hang it on principle. In this case, they lose all benefits, and if they are fined, then they have to prove in court that they have a certificate. Installing the sign "Disabled driving" immediately removes all these problems.
