10 high-mileage models that you can safely buy
Content
There are various car reliability ratings around the world, which are based on the number of failures of individual models. For example, in Germany, reliability ratings are compiled by organizations such as Dekra and TUV, as well as the all-German automobile club ADAC. In the United States, the most serious research is carried out by the independent organization Consumer Reports and the marketing agency JD Electricity, which has been surveyed by thousands of car owners.
These ratings almost always differ from each other, but if you look closely at only high-mileage cars, they are almost always at the forefront in terms of strength. With the help of Autonews, we present 10 of them, which, despite their age and mileage, can serve their owners for many years.
Subaru Forester
The fact that more than 15% of American Forester owners do not want to change their car, even after more than 10 years of operation, indicates that the brand not only has a loyal audience, but also that it is a very reliable model. The crossover is distinguished by powerful naturally aspirated engines and an "indestructible" 4-speed automatic. This applies to both the second generation (SG) and the third (SH).
Ford Fusion
Compact models often make it into the reliability rating due to their cheaper construction. The Fision, which has been assembled in Germany since 2002, ranks among the strongest cars at nearly 20 years old. The model is available with simple naturally aspirated engines of 1,4 or 1,6 liters, as well as with a solid suspension with high ground clearance. The only downside is the cheap interior.
Toyota Corolla
It is no coincidence that the Corolla family is the most popular car on Earth. The ninth generation of the E120 model, which has worked without serious problems for more than 10 years, is considered the standard of reliability. The body does not rust, and atmospheric engines with a volume of 1,4, 1,6 and 1,8 liters overcome several hundred thousand kilometers. The problem with older cars is the electrical system.
A
You might find it odd that a turbo sports car would make it into a similar list of high-mileage cars over 20 years old. In this case, this is the first generation with front-wheel drive and a 1,8-liter engine, the turbine of which is simpler than modern analogues. Prior to the DSG, the model was equipped with a reliable Tiptronic automatic transmission.
Audi A6
The second generation Audi A6 has been at the top of the ADAC reliability rating for 15 years, and to this day the situation has not changed. Newer versions are firmly in the lead for models up to 3 or 5 years old, and older ones for models over 10 years old. The reason here is the use of atmospheric motors, which are quite reliable. Unfortunately, this does not apply to the air suspension and CVT transmission.
Mercedes SLK
Another non-standard car, which is constantly included in the TOP-10 of the most reliable old models (age 10-20 years). This is due to the excellent build and relatively simple design of the model. Its ninth generation relies on mechanical compressor engines and a proprietary 5-speed automatic transmission. These cars are considered "eternal" and are still found on the roads, although rarely due to their small circulation.
Toyota RAV4
More than 90% of Toyota RAV4 owners have never encountered technical problems, including the second-generation crossover that has been in production since 2001. In others, defects are also rare. Aspirated engines of 2,0 and 2,4 liters are considered "eternal", and the automatic transmission is practically "indestructible".
Honda CR-V
The traditionally high reliability ratings of the Honda brand are mainly due to the CR-V crossover, which easily drives more than 300000 km without overhaul. It has been ranked by Consumer Reports as the reliability leader in its class for many years, and the German TUV has ranked it in the top 10 for up to XNUMX years. Not only the naturally aspirated engines and gearbox are reliable, but also the suspension.
Lexus RX
Both the brand itself and its flagship crossover have been ranked number one in reliability ratings in the US for many years. According to JD In terms of power, the Lexus RX has the fewest problems compared to other models in its class. The reliability index is an impressive 95,35%. Similar estimates are given by a study of the English edition of Auto Express. However, everyone recommends the second and third generation RX, but with naturally aspirated engines.
Toyota Camry
The popular business sedan is in steady demand not only as new, but also in the used car market (mainly in the USA and Russia, since the model is recently available in Europe). American Consumer Reports claims that the model can travel more than 300 km without problems, and its engines (without V000 6) and transmissions can earn a million. The fifth (XV3.5) and sixth (XV30) generations of the model are recommended.
