The Polonez story began in September 1974 when an agreement was signed with Fiat to help develop the successor to the Fiat 125p. The FSO authorities expected to produce 150 3,5 cars per year, but the first year was bad - only a little more than 100 thousand were produced. auto The production implementation plan assumed a ceiling of 1980 thousand. copies in 40, but it was quickly revised and the target was set at 11 thousand. cars per year. In fact, the 1983th Polonaise did not leave the plant until February of this year.

At the first stage of its “life”, the FSO Polonaise was a luxurious and expensive car, inaccessible to an ordinary person. This state of affairs continued throughout the entire period of the existence of the Polish People's Republic. After the political transformation, it was still produced, but its prestige was greatly reduced. Despite the modernization (model Caro), it was still a car technologically stuck in the decisions of the XNUMXs.
