The French were so self-confident that they shouted from all sides about entering the premium class. And looking at the sales statistics, it's safe to say that it was a step in a very good direction. However, the French followed suit and prepared a SW version that should give us more usable space.

However, station wagon bodies can be a very tricky subject for stylists. Peugeot once again he did a great job. Despite the fact that the rear overhang is 28 millimeters longer than the version specified by the manufacturer of the sedan (the rest of the dimensions remained unchanged), it looks generally restrained and no less aggressive. To be honest, I like the SW more than the liftback, which is supposed to be more elegant. The Allure we tested didn't come equipped with full LED headlights, so chrome inserts replaced the characteristic light fangs. Fortunately, one of the best stylistic highlights in cars remains - frameless windows.

The entire console surrounds us with very good materials, and the central place is occupied by a touch screen responsible for controlling all on-board devices, including air conditioning. There is also a tiny steering wheel and a digital clock raised above it, the legibility and operation of which do not require acrobatics from us. 

You definitely need to get used to the average visibility - low driving position Peugeot 508 SW, combined with the high glazing line, make the first moments in the car really challenging. The rear-view camera makes the task a little easier, but only when it is bright and the lens is not stained with dirt. 

Although the wheelbase has remained unchanged compared to the liftback, there is noticeably more legroom and headroom in the back seat. The roofline slopes slightly gently, saving a few extra centimeters. Although Peugeot 508 there is still no start to the class of "troublemakers" such as Opel Insignia or Skoda Superb.

After the surprisingly enjoyable driving experience that the liftback option gave me, I had quite a few promises after the SW and I must admit I was not disappointed at all. This time I tested the version with the base unit 1.6 PureTech with 180 hp. and 250 Nm of torque. Despite the fact that we do not have a very large capacity and 45 horses less compared to the previously tested 508the car remained surprisingly dynamic. Theoretically, it accelerates to the first hundred in about 8 seconds, and the maximum speed is 225 km / h. 

The turbocharged four-cylinder engine has plenty of power even when 508 SW we will pack it to the limit. The engine shows no signs of fatigue in almost the entire range. It really doesn't matter if you're accelerating from zero or from a higher speed - PureTech can always make your ride virtually stress-free. You should also praise the very high culture of the engine. The drive practically does not emit vibrations and unwanted sounds, which, combined with excellent soundproofing of the cabin, ensures high comfort of movement on the road. 

The 1.6 PureTech engine with 180 hp completes the almost perfect look. Peugeot 508 SW this is his very moderate fuel appetite. With a leisurely ride on the highway, it’s not a problem to drop to the 5 liter area. In a city full of traffic jams Peugeot it took about 8-9 liters for every 100 kilometers. Driving on the highway consumes about 7,5 liters, and reducing the speed to 120 km / h reduces fuel consumption by up to 6,5 liters. Together with a 62-litre fuel tank, this gives us a range of 800 kilometers.

Its variable performance is most felt between Sport and Comfort modes, but it performs very well in every setting. It provides significant all-rounder with high cornering stability and effectively keeps the body in check while being comfortable and resilient. Combined with a fast and precise steering system, this makes Peugeot 508 SW can give us a lot of driving pleasure. 

On long trips, the suspension easily handles almost any type of bump. Only short lateral clearances on the roads mean that the suspension system transmits delicate vibrations into the cabin. When using load capacity Peugeot the suspension does nothing with the extra pounds thrown on it, and the car remains stable even at high speeds. 

Peugeot 508 SW is never cheap...

If you are looking for petrol, then here you need to prepare for an expense of PLN 138 for a 800 PureTech 1.6. The model we tested is the Allure version, which starts at PLN 180, but we have a few extras, which means the price is closer to PLN 148. At the top of the price list we find the Plug-In hybrid for which you have to pay PLN 200.

If you're looking for the biggest car in its class, then the Peugeot won't be the best choice for you, but if you're looking for something that drives great, doesn't smoke, and turns the streets, the 508 is the one for you. choice.
