The Suprima S is powered by yet another version of Campro's 1.6-litre twin overhead cam engine, this time with a low-boost turbo (11 psi or 80 bar) for a significant increase in torque and power. The turbo system is equipped with an intercooler for increased efficiency, and the engine delivers 103kW at 5,000rpm and 205Nm at 2,000-4,000rpm.

The Suprima S will be available with a seven-speed Protronic CVT transmission with paddle shifters, followed by a six-speed manual next year, saving $2,000 over a CVT.

Ride and handling were taken care of by Lotus, which promises neat dynamics. Suprima S also has a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

FUNCTIONS AND FEATURES

The sporty exterior styling theme continues inside the cabin, starting with steering wheel audio and phone controls and dark gray upholstery.

Kit includes Bluetooth, USB and iPod connection, smart information display that includes distance and trip time counter, instantaneous fuel consumption and distance to empty, shift lock, car key fob low battery warning, seat belt reminder, alarm intrusions, maintenance reminder and the usual set of warning lights.

The GXR gets black accents on the steering wheel, shift knob and center console, as well as leather upholstery.

It also gets a start/stop button, steering wheel paddles, cruise control, automatic headlights, automatic front wipers and climate control. Satnav is also included along with parking sensors and hill hold assist.
