Vespa is synonymous with the designer scooter in the West, but not everyone knows that the company also made cars. They were assembled not at the Italian factory, but in France, at the ACMA factory.

The Vespa 400 debuted on September 26, 1957 and was the answer to the growing demand for microcars. It was a small, only 2,85 meters and a weight of 375 kg, a two-seat car with a rear engine. For the drive, a two-cylinder engine with a volume of 400 cm3 was used, which allowed the car to accelerate to about 85 km / h.

The debut on the market was successful. In its first full year of production (1958), over 12 units were produced. Later the market was filled and by the year 1961 it managed to reach about units. The Vespa was not as successful as the Autobianchi Bianchina, which sold several times more each year. For this reason, Vespa has not prepared a successor.
