Mercedes G-class is not understandable. The appearance has not changed in 40 years, it has an extremely non-fluid body, it accelerates, but does not turn. What do you like about it? We'll get there by driving the most powerful version.

It has been 40 years since the first Class G. And over the past 40 years, it has made an impression - at first with its off-road abilities, but over time it has increasingly become a symbol of status and the unique taste of its owners. This car is comparable to the Wrangler, but not at this price point. Class G it's just as luxurious as the S-Class, just with a completely different character.

The most interesting thing, however, is that after so many years last year a new, only the second generation appeared. Previously, we only dealt with subsequent facelifts, or perhaps versions that were introduced later but were produced at the same time.

But you needed it G class adapt to today's times - and this, apparently, is not the next facelift.

The new Mercedes G-Class is even more massive

Mercedes class G - what it looks like, everyone can see. In the new generation, it received LED lighting, but the shape has remained more or less unchanged in 40 years, even despite the introduction of a new generation to the market. Besides, does anyone imagine Gelenda different?

In the AMG version, it has large 21-inch wheels, some emblems associated with the version, for example, on the grille and tailgate, and most importantly, additionally extended wheel arches and other bumpers. Thanks to this, it looks even more massive, but also a little more sporty. And it's still a full-fledged SUV!

As a result, in this very interesting, black color, turning into green and with black rims, he looks just “gangster”.

Count Dracula would be pleased

Test version Mercedes Class G looks like Count Dracula's car. Outside black, inside red quilted leather. Looks nice, but also quite bold. Nevertheless, there are plenty of configuration options, everyone will set up this car the way he likes.

And in any configuration, it will amaze you with its workmanship. Stitching, leather quality, dashboard build quality, literally everything - here we really know what we pay for.

How much do we pay? To get the upholstery as in the test model, we have to choose the "Leather Package 2" for PLN 21, the Premium Plus Package for PLN 566, as well as the Comfort Seats Package Plus, Energizing Comfort, Active Cruise Control and Blind Spot Monitoring in the Mirrors . And so we got quite a lot, but we only wanted beautiful, red, quilted upholstery, and we spent more than 50 zlotys. Madness.

However, not everyone will be happy with the appearance of the cabin. Mercedes-AMG G63. The only analog clock with the prestigious IWC Schaffhausen logo is located at the bottom of the dashboard. Way down G-classes the concept was carried over from the S-Class with the Command Online screen and digital clock under one glass. We will not get analog clocks from AMG - which is a pity, because. G500 they are and look pretty good.

The driver's seat is high, but the seats Mercedes-AMG G63 hold well in corners. We easily find a comfortable position. If you like to ride on cold elbows, then Class G this is perfect for this as the bottom edge of the window runs very low. It is very practical because thanks to it we also have excellent visibility.

Plenty of space both front and rear. Up to 5 adults can travel here easily. The trunk is also useful on long trips, because it holds as much as 480 liters, and with the seats folded down as much as 2250 liters.

He's turning!

The problem with fast SUVs is that they don't turn... For example, the Jeep Trackhawk is strong as hell, turning bad as hell. And how should a very tall SUV built on a frame turn?

no way. This was the main claim to the previous one. G-class in the AMG version. And that is why AMG has completely rebuilt both axles in the new generation. Front independent with two wishbones. At the rear we have a rigid axle with five wishbones.

Add to that the drive train, which instead of constantly sending torque to both axles in a 50-50 ratio, now sends 60% of the torque to the rear axle. The design of the drive has also changed - the function of a self-locking differential is now performed by a multi-plate clutch. However, we still have the ability to lock the center, front and rear differentials to 100 percent. The front and rear axles are blocked by cam clutches. The gearbox remained, in addition, with an increased gear ratio, from 2,1 to 2,93.

We also get AMG RIDE CONTROL as standard. adaptive suspension that can operate in comfort, sport and sport + modes.

So there are a lot of changes, and thanks to this Mercedes-AMG G63 finally he liked the turns. The differences between suspension modes are noticeable. In "comfort" mode, the car rolls more when cornering, but it picks up bumps much better. It's really convenient. At the other extreme is the Sport+, and although it's not exactly "concrete," it noticeably improves the car's stability and steering response - at the expense of comfort.

Progressive steering sometimes works weird at first, because the same movement of the steering wheel at a different speed results in a different steering angle, but you get used to it very quickly. Therefore, it is more comfortable in the city, safer on the highway.

And on the highway Mercedes-AMG G63 we will accelerate with surprising ease to the speed at which we will be threatened with litigation. This is due to a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 with a capacity of 585 hp. and as much as 850 Nm of torque. Yes, it's no longer a 5.5 V8, but it still sounds brilliant and gets the G-Class to 100 km/h in just 4,5 seconds. The top speed is 220 km/h, and with the AMG driver's package it's 240 km/h.

Class G has the overall aerodynamics of a kiosk and in Version 500, even with a strong V8, above 120 km / h this resistance is already felt. Driving on the freeways in this car was not so confident - for some reason AMG it does nothing with speed and air resistance. He rushes forward as if there is no tomorrow. The car is stable even at speeds of 140 km/h and above.

But the fuel consumption is quite high ... In the city, it was possible to reduce it to 12 l / 100 km, but more often it will be 15 liters or more. There is no upper limit. But these are details.

The most important thing is that you are driving a new G-class in the AMG version it's an experience every time. That ominous sound, that acceleration, it surpasses most vehicles on the road - something we won't experience in any other car. Okay, maybe a few more, but none of them will look like a G-Class.

This is one of those cars that I always looked for a reason to ride and was too reluctant to switch to records and measurements. I just had to go to the gas station often.

Mercedes-AMG G63. It's simple - it's great

Mercedes class G This is one of my favorite cars, but despite the appearance, it is perfect for me only in the AMG version. It's fast, corners well, and it's practical, it looks great, it's incredibly comfortable and it's just luxurious. Only this is due to the price of 760 thousand. zloty.

With an unlimited budget, I would take it blindly. Objectively - Class G First of all, this feeling of uniqueness, and in the AMG version - an additional source of pride for the owner. SUVs that are as fast and powerful are no longer a rarity, so there are plenty to choose from, but look for such a distinctive character.

And character is what today's roads, filled with the same cars, need to keep driving interesting.
