Adaptive Damping System - adaptive damping

Adaptive Damping System - adaptive dampingADS (from German Adaptive Dämpfungssystem or English Adaptive Damping System) is an adaptive damping system.

The Airmatic pneumatic chassis usually includes ADS adaptive dampers that adapt their performance to the current conditions according to the commands of the control unit on each wheel independently of the others. The system suppresses unwanted body movements. Shock absorbers can change their characteristics within 0,05 seconds. The electronics work in four modes depending on the current driving style, body movements and wheel vibrations. In the former, it works with a soft lunge and soft grip for a comfortable ride; in the second - with a soft lunge and hard compression; in the third - with a hard lunge and soft compression; fourth, with a hard lunge and a hard squeeze to minimize wheel movement and improve stability during cornering, braking, evasive maneuvers and other dynamic phenomena. The current mode is selected based on steering angle, four body tilt sensors, vehicle speed, ESP data, and brake pedal position. In addition, the driver can choose between Sport and Comfort modes.
