Two-wheeled vehicle manufacturers Kymco, Super Soco and Felo Technologies have just formally signed a new strategic agreement. Together they will develop a new line of electric motorcycles and scooters based on the Kymco Ionex battery platform.

If Taiwanese Kymco has remained silent in recent months, it is not abandoning battery replacement technology. Introduced in 2018, the Ionex system has just won new major partners: Super Soco and Felo, two manufacturers specializing in electric two-wheelers.

Under the terms of the deal, future electric scooters and motorcycles of both brands will now use the Ionex system. Standardized, this will allow consideration of the deployment of generic battery replacement systems, especially in large cities.

Open war with Gogoro

Today Gogoro is the undisputed leader in battery replacement. The Taiwanese manufacturer, like Kymco, is an electricity specialist with a wide range of models and a network of over 2 battery replacement stations in Taiwan. Since then, he has announced partnerships with other manufacturers including Yamaha and Suzuki, as well as specific partnerships in India and China.

Rather than joining the initiative, Kymco has opted to go it alone and is trying to rally other players around its Ionex system. Particularly famous in the world of two-wheeled electric vehicles, the Super Soco is a great catch for the Taiwanese manufacturer.
