Respond:

In the JF506E automatic transmission, mechanical damage is a frequent problem, consisting in a break or break in the belt responsible for the reverse gear. On the above belt, the weld often leaves, and then the reverse gear is lost. To solve the problem, remove the box to get to the damaged belt to replace it with a new one. The cost of the entire operation must be within PLN 1000. A specialist can repair a broken transmission in just a few hours. I don’t recommend doing repairs on my own - I know from experience that such cases always end in a fiasco and a visit to the workshop.

Applies to vehicles with ZF 5HP24 gearbox.

Application:

Audi A8 1997-2003, BMW 5 and 7 1996-2004

Case:

Some time ago, the following situation happened to me - when gas was added, the car did not accelerate, although the tachometer needle went up. When, after a short stop, I wanted to continue the journey, the car would not start. The jack pointed to D, the tachometer worked, and I stood still. What is the reason for this behavior of the car?

Respond:

Vehicles equipped with a ZF 5HP24 gearbox may have skids or no gears in the "D" position. The reason is a broken or cracked clutch housing “A”. 5HP24 - a common malfunction, a typical basket factory defect. The material wears out when the accelerator pedal is pressed too hard. Theoretically, such a basket should withstand any use, but, unfortunately, in reality, everything is different. We are often approached by clients with such malfunctions. The only way out in this situation is to remove the box to get to the damaged basket and replace it with a new one. Repair in a professional workshop, depending on the model of the car, will take from 8 to 16 working hours. The cost is 3000-4000 PLN.

Automatic transmission - the most frequent breakdowns Case:

I have a problem with the tiptronic on an Audi A4 2.5 TDI 163 km. All positions of the gear lever are highlighted in red on the display. It seems that all gears are engaged at the same time. What does this mean?

Respond:

This symptom may indicate that the gearbox is in service mode - hence no power - only 3rd gear. There is no need to replace the entire gearbox. First, check the level and quality of the oil and battery. If these elements are serviceable, computer diagnostics should be carried out and errors considered. It is important that the diagnostic tool indicate the specific name of the error - only by reading the codes will you be able to diagnose the malfunction. I suspect wear in the jack area - it could become dirty.
