Aprilia ETV 1000 Caponord

We, humans, are by nature such that over time we get tired of monotony. The challenge is to find something new and spot the difference. Aprilia CapoNord is also different. Conceptually conceived as a cross between a touring motorcycle and an off-road motorcycle, it brings a fresh breeze of sharp lines and a new character.

At the corners, not only the appearance of the motorcycle is formed, but also the fittings and the plastic filling of the internal armor. It takes quite a long time for a human to assimilate and adapt to digital fuel and temperature meters and analog speed and speed meters like round pies. "Television," the friend says as the rebar is dressed in blue light in the dark.

The 60 ° civilized motor heart with anti-vibration shafts is largely similar to the one that is so popular in the sister RSV Mille and Falco models. Only that in the ETV it is adapted to the concept of a motorcycle and therefore a more relaxed ride. Four valves and two camshafts in the head and two vibration damping shafts were previously known, but this time the Sagem electronic fuel injection has been completely redesigned, which should contribute to more favorable torque.

The pistons have also been redesigned, the already mentioned camshafts are new and the fuel supply system is new. Measurements in Akrapovič showed that 87 hp. comes from the two-cylinder wheel to the rear wheel. The primary part of the 2 in 1 in 2 type exhaust system with two silencers raised under the seat is also different. Therefore, the motorcycle has wide hips and is uncomfortable if suitcases are attached to the seat.

Aprilia's ingenuity in the area of the hydraulically controlled clutch is already standard on new models from the Italian brand Noale. A pneumatic torque damper (PPC) from the drive wheel is also standard on the clutch, which is standard on soft but harsh downhill shifts.

Highway spotlight

We opened the ETV package for the first time at the Grobnik racetrack, which definitely skewed the first impression of the bike, although all 98 of the claimed “horses” were breathing at full power at 8250 rpm. It is known that the aerodynamic characteristics were tested in the wind tunnel of the University of Perugia, but the hippodrome limited freedom. It can be argued that the bike in fifth gear exceeds 200 km per hour, and in sixth you need more space to spin. In the first it accelerates to 80, in the second to 120, in the third to 150 and in the fourth to 185 kilometers per hour, each time at 9.000 rpm when the electronics intervene.

We can say that XNUMXth gear is for fuel economy. On the roads in Slovenia, when we also caught crosswinds, the aerodynamics were deceiving and sensitive to crosswinds. In moments like this, the rider must be sober and skillful so as not to be intimidated when such a luxuriously designed motorcycle challenges the wind and direction.

Torque 72 Nm (most reasonable) for use on twisty roads. "Moving" a 250 kg car with a very conservative geometry does not cause serious problems, but requires some "body language" for decisive direction from turn to turn: more effort on the steering wheel, pushing with the side foot inward. the direction of inclination of the body weight transferred to the front wheel.

On racing asphalt, where cornering speeds are higher, the pedals and the side (so the only one!) Parking support clinging roughly to the asphalt. You will only hear a squeak on the road if the motorcycle is fully loaded. What we lack, however, is that the bike does not have a central parking post, which comes in handy for maintenance (chain lubrication) and off-tarmac parking.

Suitable terrain for CapoNord is a winding, not too slow country road, where you can reach speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour or more. We wouldn't be able to try the features themselves without a good framework. This is a class-exclusive chassis with a pair of magnesium-aluminum alloy brackets. According to the Italians, it should provide the highest torsional rigidity in its category.

Of course, it was not without brakes either. Serie Oro by Brembo is a reference to trust. And it really pays off too, so slowing down is a treat. Unfortunately, there is no ABS, which should be part of the mandatory equipment in this category. In addition, we argue that the rear brake is too coarse and therefore the bike locks up too quickly.

Lots of space

Security also means transparency, which is good on ETV. The windshield is solid, a few remarks about the saddle seat, which is not too high even for short drivers, but for a while (after a long ride) it is indicated by pain under the coccyx. The tall driver sits relaxed and comfortable. They seem to be attracted to oversized bikes in Aprilia, as the sporty Mille is also robust and spacious. The passenger seat is removable, there is a small box with a lid under it.

The Aprilia suspension, especially the Marzocchi front fork, is too soft. Thus, the “ship-like” feeling of sinking into the front fork under braking is only slightly stronger. The latest sax is better and adjustable. This is handy when determining spring rate when you and your companion decide to go on a slightly longer journey and when you hang travel bags on your motorcycle, which are otherwise an accessory option. The stiffness of the prestress is adjusted using a wheel protruding from the plastic under the left seat cover. The work is simple, neat and clean.

North Cape is a hell of a lot, across all those thousands of winding fjords. Especially if you are an esthete and practitioner at heart. When you arrive, everything is pretty sad, gray and, most importantly, expensive. It is much more convenient to see your loved one on the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean Sea. And it will not be a mistake to enjoy the Mediterranean sun as a threesome. Maybe with CapoNord.

evaluation

Aprilia is a fresh bike that inspires confidence. But! In this class, BMW has set good standards with the GS. That's why we can blame the latest Aprilia for having too little potential: it doesn't have a central parking post, it doesn't have ABS options, it doesn't have heated handles, it doesn't have suitcases that practical.

Aprilia has the same technical "platform" for the athlete and the tourist, which should reduce costs. But the price, especially considering the European origin, is not so profitable if it is comparable to the Japanese one by the criterion.

Final grade: 4/5
