Audi A4 2.5 TDI Avant

Uff, how time flies! It's been almost a year and four months since the day we received the Audi keys. But it seems that only a few months have passed. But if you think about it, it's not Audi's fault. Mainly to blame are the work and the deadlines that haunt us all the time. There is simply no time to allow us to see the world, or at least Europe, in any other way than just behind the windows of steel horses at a speed of 100 kilometers and an hour. Not to mention, we also focused on the car.

The proof of this is undoubtedly the Geneva Motor Show. The way there is by no means a short one. It takes about 850 kilometers. But I could not find a moment to devote myself to Audi. What do we want, just fourteen days later I had to sit in it like this again.

But make no mistake - resist far! The front seats are still considered excellent. With good lateral support and wide adjustment possibilities. Maybe even too much, as they require the driver and front passenger to hug them for quite some time.

Much less "tiring" is the sporty three-spoke steering wheel, which is "only" adjustable in height and depth. The fact that the ergonomics in Audi are not accidental convinces us more and more: the switches are located where we expect them and the pedals, as well as excellent support for the left foot. In general, the workmanship was pleasantly surprised. Everything in the salon still works as it did on the first day. Even the box under the front passenger's seat, which in most cars loves to jam when opening and closing, makes its journey surprisingly smooth in Audi.

Well, and even more so the hype about the supertest “four” from the lips of passengers who have to sit on the back bench is audible. Since the front seats are sporty and upholstered in a combination of leather and Alcantara, it's natural that all this continues in the rear. However, that is why only two passengers sit comfortably there - the third should sit on a slight bulge in the middle, covered with leather - and if their legs are too long, they will complain about the hard (plastic) backrest supports. front two seats, in which they must rest with their knees.

Fortunately, the other side turns out to be much more original. There are even more drawers than are needed for storing the necessary equipment, and for attaching various small things, we can also find a fastening strap on the right side, a net at the bottom and even a bag holder. In addition, the ice rink and baffle are becoming more and more indispensable elements, and if we are really missing something, it is just a hole for transporting longer items (read: skis). As mentioned, only two passengers can comfortably sit in the back seat, and if you have to sacrifice one third of it, that means that more than three simply won't be able to ski with this Audi.

The engine is very similar to the passenger compartment. All this time, he did not ask for anything from us, except for three regular services, determined by the computer, and enough fuel. And this is in very moderation! As a result, the gearbox started to give us a lot more headaches, about a quarter of our supertest. When starting off and accelerating at low speeds, sounds are occasionally heard from the inside that strongly resemble something breaking in the intestines. All this is additionally "enriched" by unpleasant shocks. A sufficient reason to hand over the car to the service station! But there we were assured that there was no mistake. Neither the transmission (Multitronic) nor the clutch. However, we can only say that the "diagnostics" is still repeated and that during this time the workshop has already replaced the half-light.

It is difficult to associate a gearbox or clutch malfunction with a semiaxis failure, but the fact is that during impacts, the loads on the axle shafts are certainly significant. However, in the Audi supertest, we noticed another drawback, namely, how the parking light bulbs burn out. Yes, bulbs are consumables and simply burn out, but it is difficult to explain why some are so sensitive for side lights, while all the others work perfectly. We've replaced them twice before, about as often as the front wipers. However, this would not be a problem if we did not have to drive to a service station for any such intervention. The headlight is built in so that it is simply impossible to do this work yourself.

But I must admit that, despite the little things, we did not have any serious problems with Audi. The engine runs great, the interior still impresses with its excellent ergonomics, comfort, build quality, and user-friendliness (Avant), so it's no surprise that Audi is still the most coveted vehicle in our super test fleet.
