The 8-speed ZF 8HP70 automatic transmission has been produced by a German company since 2009 and is installed on the rear or all-wheel drive BMW models under the GA8HP70Z and GA8HP70X indices. This automatic transmission is also installed on Jaguar and Land Rover, as well as Chrysler, Doodge and Jeep as 870RE.
The first generation 8HP also includes: 8HP45, 8HP55 and 8HP90.

Description of the machine ZF 8HP70
In 2009, the German company ZF introduced an 8-speed automatic to replace the 6-automatic transmission 6HP26, which was intended for rear and all-wheel drive cars with a longitudinal engine. This automatic transmission is installed with powerful V6 and V8 engines, as well as diesel engines up to 700 Nm of torque.
Compared to the old 6-speed gearboxes, the design of the mechanical part has changed and instead of the Lepeletier planetary gear system, the so-called Simpson gearbox has appeared. Also, according to modern tradition, this machine is equipped with a built-in Start-Stop system. The valve body is new here, but, as before, it is combined with the control unit into a single mechatronic unit.

Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of the 8HP70 box
This is a reliable and hardy machine, but it is installed on very powerful cars, and their owners are prone to overly aggressive driving, because of which the gtf lock friction wears out quickly, the solenoids are clogged with this dirt and the gearbox starts to push.
Severe wear of the torque converter lock-up clutch leads to shaft vibration and destruction of the oil pump bearing, and then completely damage to its housing.
This machine has a lot of aluminum parts and they cannot withstand high loads, so bursting pistons or drums are not uncommon during very active use.
A well-known weak point of automatic transmissions of this line are short-lived bushings and seals, which wear out quickly here, which leads to a drop in lubrication pressure in the system.
The manufacturer declared the 8HP70 gearbox resource at 200 km, but this machine runs up to 000 km.
