Autonomous e-bike - a prototype presented by CoModule

Like cars, how soon will we see autonomous electric bicycles riding our roads? In Germany, coModule has just presented the first prototype.

Based on the utility model Cargo, the autonomous electric bike developed by the Germans from coModule is controlled by a smartphone that allows the car to move forward, turn and brake.

By adding additional features such as programming GPS coordinates, the machine can also operate completely autonomously in a "closed" environment. Technically, it uses a Heinzmann electric motor that powers the German Post's electric bicycles.

“We've built a prototype of an autonomous bike because we can! This demonstrates the power of our technology and paves the way for the next generation of lightweight electric vehicles. ” explains Kristjan Maruste, CEO of coModule, a connected systems startup founded in 2014.

Autonomous e-bike: what for?

According to coModule, the possibilities offered by an autonomous bike are numerous, such as urban cleaning and delivery, where the car can “follow” its user as they travel. The use of these self-contained bicycles in conflict zones is also mentioned, which will limit the risk of human lives.
