The all-electric Atlis XT will be the next full-size 4×4 pickup to be built locally.

Emerging American battery electric vehicle (BEV) specialist Atlis has confirmed that its upcoming full-size XT 4x4 pickup truck will be sold in Australia from 2023, with it being redesigned for right-hand drive by Queensland-based Australian Manufactured Vehicles. (AusMV).

The conversion deal is similar to the one that the Walkinshaw Group of Victoria had with Ateco Group for the Ram 1500 and 2500 and GMSV for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2500 also sold in New Zealand.

However, the Atlis-AusMV partnership will take it one step further, with upgraded XTs also being exported to the Southeast Asian market, with over 19,000 built for the region before 2025.

"According to the Climate Council, Australia's target of zero emissions by 2035 means that 75% of new car sales must be electric," Atlis founder and CEO Mark Hunchett said.

“Many traditional carmakers are overlooking Australia when launching new electric vehicles for various reasons, but we see things differently. Our long range, fast charging electric work trucks are perfect for this market.

"We don't need legislative imperatives and other incentives to ship cars to Australia and AusMV knows how to put them in the hands of the owners."

So what does a three- or six-seat XT have to offer? Well, peak power from its four-motor powertrain is over 447kW and peak torque is an absurd 16,270Nm, although it's not yet clear where that power is being measured.

Either way, the XT can sprint from standstill to 97 km/h (60 mph) in just five seconds and has a top speed of 193 km/h. However, what's more impressive is that the XT has a braking towing capacity of 15,876kg and is available with a 250kWh battery pack.

Remarkably, the XT can be fully charged in just 15 minutes when using a 1.5 MW DC fast charger with a CCS connector, while regenerative braking is also supported. Its range options include 483 km, 644 km and 805 km.

In terms of utility, the XT features independent front and rear air suspension and has a payload of up to 9072kg, while its body is 1981mm or 2438mm long.

For reference, the XT's wheelbase ranges from a whopping 3658mm to 4470mm long, with a ground clearance of 305mm. Needless to say, this means business, so stay tuned.
