Asian cuisine at home

Asia has become a new favorite culinary destination for Poles. However, it would be the biggest mistake to talk about Asian cuisine as homogeneous. If we really want to cook something Asian at home, we have to decide in which direction we will go.

Asian cuisine, what?

The beginning of the nineties in Poland was the heyday of not only stalls with casseroles, pizzerias and barbecues, but also "Chinese restaurants". Today we know that these were rather accommodating Vietnamese dishes, cooked to the taste of the average Kowalski - not too spicy and generously flavored with soy sauce. Today, our awareness is much higher, although some of us still love soy sauce in sushi most of all, knowledge of the culinary culture of Asian countries is more a determining factor in belonging to a certain social group than a real interest in this region.

Encyclopedias of Asian Cuisine and Oriental Cookbooks

Magdalena Tomaszewska-Bolalek is an indisputable authority in the field of Japanese and Korean cuisine. If we want to learn something about the cuisines of these countries, their culinary traditions, get inspiration for cooking (with the proviso that some of them are the result of many years of experience, which, despite our best intentions, we are not able to repeat) , let's reach for Japanese sweets and Korea's culinary traditions. If we are more interested in Thailand and its spicy tastes, then Daria Ladokha's book will allow us to recreate these flavors at home. Fans of China and regional flavors should read the book by Ken Homa, an authority on Chinese flavors.

If from Asian cuisines we are most interested in India, then we should definitely turn to the book "Vegan Indian Cuisine", which not only presents recipes for traditional dishes, but also tells how to combine spices and herbs that form the basis of Indian cuisine.

If we want to make pad thai at home, fried noodles, or anything else that needs to be fried quickly, let's invest in a wok. Tefal offers two wok versions for European cuisines - elegant and comfortable. The Fiskars wok is deeper and suitable for induction cookers. For frying in a wok, you will also need a wide spatula that can withstand high temperatures. We all love vegetables and meat tossed in the wok, but it takes strength and precision - for those who don't like to clean the kitchen and eat off the floor, I recommend getting a spatula.

Tefal's work

For some time now, everyone has been trying their hand at making sushi at home. Sets of plates and chopsticks will certainly help in serving ready-made rolls. Useful for cooking, bamboo mats and sharp knives for fish fillets. We also need chopsticks. Those who have mastered the twisting of classic rolls can be inspired by the art of making decorative sushi.

How to eat sushi?

Sushi is not only a dish, but also a set of rituals that are part of Japanese culture. We start the meal by drying our hands with a hot towel. You can eat sushi not only with chopsticks, but also with your hands. Traditionally, we sit on the floor. Sushi is served with soy sauce and wasabi. However, some sushi masters believe that both spices spoil the taste of fresh fish, and excessive use of them means that the sushi itself is not good enough. If we decide to eat sushi with our hands, grab a piece of rice with fish with your thumb and forefinger and put everything in your mouth at once - rather do not chew sushi. Pickled ginger, which we serve with sushi, is used to cleanse the taste buds - it is worth biting off between successive pieces in order to be able to appreciate their taste "on a fresh palate". After you finish eating, remove the chopsticks with the sharp side to the left.

Tea, a product from Asia that we use every day

We often forget that the most popular Asian product is tea. Most of us are well aware of the taste of Ceylon black tea, matcha conquers the hearts of gourmets around the world and is now everywhere - in ice cream, cheesecakes and sticks. In Japan and China, I drink tea from cups, not large mugs. Brewing tea is a ceremony, not just pouring boiling water over the leaves.

If we like the taste of matcha green tea, we should definitely turn to a tea guide who will teach us how to properly prepare the infusion and how to use the green powder in daily life. The very brush for distributing powder in water will let us feel the incredible magic of the product with which we interact.

Stir fry is the simplest Asian dish

Roast is perhaps the simplest dish that we can cook. It literally means "stir and fry", and that's what the preparation comes down to.

Simply prepare chopped garlic, chopped ginger, soy sauce, a cup of chopped favorite vegetables (carrots, peppers, broccoli, pak choi) and boiled rice noodles or chow mein (1/2 cup). Heat the oil in a wok, add the garlic and ginger and stir quickly. Add vegetables, stirring, fry for about 4 minutes, until slightly soft but still crispy. Add soy sauce, pasta and stir. Serve drizzled with sesame oil. Attention! Sesame oil should not be heated.

Chinese knife-cleaver CHROMA

In a very local variant, we can make a Polish version of stir-fry - fry garlic and ginger in oil, add chopped carrots, mushrooms and cabbage. Fry with soy sauce, add buckwheat and serve with sesame oil. This is an amazing combination of different cuisines!
