Size – what are our needs and what space do we have?

The first question we should ask ourselves when choosing a refrigerator is how much space we have in the kitchen. Space is a key issue, especially since walls cannot be freely expanded, lengthened or raised. Thus, you must carefully measure the space in your refrigerator. The refrigerator theoretically should not stand next to the oven or sink. I'm writing theoretically because not only have I seen the design of the refrigerator next to the oven, but I've also seen kitchens so small that everything was right next to each other. In an ideal kitchen world, there should be a countertop next to the fridge where food can be placed before putting it in the fridge and what you take out of the fridge can be placed on.

When we decide how wide the equipment will fit in our kitchen, we need to consider its height. The taller the refrigerator, the more will fit in it. The higher the refrigerator, the more difficult it is to reach the top shelves. It is worth remembering, especially since some people put the refrigerator on a gentle rise, and they themselves are of fairly average height. I highly recommend that you measure it carefully - sometimes getting to the top shelf can be quite a dizzying feat.

Fridge freezer?

When choosing a refrigerator, we must decide whether we are buying a refrigerator (i.e. the refrigerator itself) or a refrigerator-freezer. We will definitely notice the different types of freezers that make up the refrigerator - those that we open directly from the outside, and those that we have access to from the inside. Some people don't need a freezer - they mostly store ice, ice cream and sometimes alcohol in it. Others cannot imagine their life without a freezer, because, following the principle of wastelessness, they try to immediately freeze everything that they cannot eat. Such people need not only a large freezer, but also easy access to it. Opening from the outside seems like a more practical choice. You don't have to open the whole fridge to take out these frozen meatballs every day, it's a rainy day sauce that is frozen bread.

Built-in or freestanding refrigerator?

Freestanding refrigerators are usually slightly larger than built-in ones - they are only a few centimeters, but still. The advantage of the built-in refrigerator is that it is not visible in the built-in refrigerator. It allows you to create the effect of a single space. On the other hand, some freestanding refrigerators are design symbols and look like little pieces of art. Usually in small rooms, a built-in refrigerator with the effect of a single wall looks better. If we have space and love beautiful things, we can go crazy and buy a refrigerator in your favorite color.

Recently, I also saw special stickers for refrigerators - this way you can decorate furniture with wallpaper with your favorite pattern. In addition to slightly kitschy comics, you can create a graphic theme that fits the entire apartment.

Is there a fridge nearby?

Iconic refrigerator from American films. To the right is a refrigerator with shelves and deep drawers, to the left is a large freezer with the obligatory ice maker and ice crusher. Who doesn't know a side fridge? This is a big thing - it really takes up a lot of space. This is very convenient for a family who likes to shop once a week. The freezer is bigger than regular refrigerators, but not as big as you might think (because of that great ice maker). There is, of course, the option to buy a side-to-side refrigerator without an ice maker and thereby increase the freezer, but let's agree - this ice streaming directly into the glass is one of the reasons why we even think about buying such equipment.

The new generation side-mounted refrigerators even have a built-in TV or tablet, they remember shopping lists, tell you about products that have just run out, you can save a message for the family on them - a bit like in Jetson's house. They look good in large and tall rooms, although I have seen an apartment where such a refrigerator was the main piece of furniture in the living room (no extension).
