Bentley Continental GT sets Pikes Peak stock car record

The Bentley Continental GT set a new Pikes Peak hillclimb record with a time of 10 minutes 18.4 seconds.

The W12-powered Bentley Continental GT became the fastest production car on Pikes Peak after a record run on the famous Hill Climb on Sunday, June 30th.

Pikes Peak veteran Rhys Millen piloted the British coupe to the chequered flag in 10 minutes and 18.4 seconds, shaving eight seconds off the previous record, and averaging 112.4km/h.

Millen was very pleased with the record run: "This is an amazing end to the wet and snowy 2019 race at Pikes Peak."

“We came here with one goal: to be the fastest production car in the mountains and set a new record.

“Today we had to face what Mother Nature threw at us, but the Continental GT held strong all the way to the top and we are now number one.”

The 156km climb to 20 turns this year was particularly difficult due to poor weather conditions and, as always, the high altitude put pressure on drivers and vehicles alike.

Since the starting line is located at an altitude of 2800 meters above sea level, the air density in the mountains is reduced by a third, which makes the Continental GT's 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine work very hard.

At ground level, the big coupe delivers 473 kW and 900 Nm and can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.

Last year, Millen set the all-time record for a stock SUV at Pikes Peak by driving a Bentley Bentayga uphill in 10 minutes 49.9 seconds.
