Blacksmith B2: Indian electric motorcycle with removable batteries

The third prototype of the Indian startup Blacksmith B2 promises up to 240 km of autonomy and integrates a device from removable batteries. Commercialization is expected in 2020.

Projects in India are expected to continue to grow as the authorities impose particularly stringent standards to promote the use of electric two-wheelers. While Revolt recently unveiled its first electric motorcycle to us, another electric startup, Blacksmith Electric, has just revealed the contours of its latest model.

The Blacksmith B2, which resembles a roadster, is the third prototype developed by an Indian startup. On the technical side, the manufacturer does not overdo it in a market where speeds remain relatively moderate. The Blacksmith B5, equipped with an electric motor that develops a constant power of up to 14 kW and a peak power of 96 kW with a torque of 2 Nm, delivers up to 96 Nm of torque. Enough to accelerate from 0 to 50 km / h in 3,7 seconds and accelerate to 120 km / h at top speed.

In terms of battery, the B2 can carry up to two removable units, each providing a range of up to 120 km or 240 km in total. Like Revolt, Blacksmith indicates it is working on a network of battery change stations to facilitate battery swaps and complete traditional charging at home.

In terms of functionality, the Blacksmith electric motorcycle has a GPS system and "artificial intelligence", the details of which the manufacturer has not yet disclosed.

Launch scheduled for 2020

The Blacksmith B2 production start has been announced for 2020. At this stage, the price of the car has not been officially disclosed. However, some media outlets mention a price of about 2 lakhs or about 2600 euros.

If the model is initially available in India, it is hoped that the manufacturer will decide to quickly expand its marketing to other markets. A case to follow!
