BMW and Toyota launch battery collaboration program

BMW and Toyota, two global leaders in the automotive industry, have solidified their alliance for the future. lithium batteries and the development of diesel engine systems.

Completed Tokyo Agreement

During a meeting in Tokyo in December last year, two major global auto companies, BMW and Toyota, confirmed that they had reached an agreement on the terms of a partnership regarding, on the one hand, electrical technologies, in particular batteries. and on the other hand, the development of diesel engine systems. Since then, the two manufacturers have completed an agreement and are initially planning to launch a collaboration program on new generations of batteries that will power future green car models. Both companies plan to improve performance as well as battery recharge times. The autonomy issue remains a major obstacle in terms of electrical technology.

German engines for Toyota Europe

Another part of the agreement concerns orders for diesel engines developed by a German company and intended for models of the Japanese brand installed in Europe. Future versions of the Auris, Avensis or even Corolla models assembled in the European continent will be affected. Both sides say they are satisfied with the agreement: BMW will benefit from Japanese expertise in electrical technology, and Toyota will be able to equip its European models with German engines. Note that BMW has also entered into an agreement with the French PSA group on hybrid technologies, and Toyota, for its part, has joined forces with American Ford in the field of hybrid trucks. Also noteworthy is the alliance between Renault and Nissan, as well as between the two Germans, Daimler and Mercedes.
