BMW i3s - very hot feeling

With the kind permission of BMW Polska, the editors of www.elektrowoz.pl have the opportunity to thoroughly test the latest BMW i3 models. Here strict recording of first impressions with all the emotions that accompanied us. A deeper test and a more serious review of the BMW i3s will be done a little later.

Let's start with gratitude

First of all, I would like to thank BMW and Nissan for their confidence in us. We have been on the market for only 9 months, which is a glimpse of most car portals. And yet, in the coming days, I will be honored to try out the new Nissan Leaf, BMW i3 and BMW i3s.

Thank you for this trust. I believe that despite a short presence in the market, we will be able to use this time to good use. I have a few ideas that ... coming soon. 🙂

I judge an electric BMW in terms of my last car, which served me a good 2 or 3 years: a Volkswagen petrol engine with a V8 4.2 engine, a 335 hp classic automatic transmission.

acceleration

Against this background, BMW i3s is… WOW. The reaction to a strong press on the accelerator pedal (kickdown) is immediate and pressing into the seat. The gearbox of my internal combustion car worked very quickly, but today I had the impression that it took an eternity before the "troika" buckled up and the engine jumped at high speed.

> Is the Mercedes EQC already in production in 2018?

The BMW i3s is like a wall light switch: you click it and the light comes on without a split second delay. You step on the gas pedal and the other cars are immediately far behind.

If you drive a BMW i3 or Nissan Leaf, then the BMW i3s will be like this:

Comfort and precision

Comfortable seats, comfortable driving position, very sporty suspension and low profile tires. It makes you feel every bump, hole, not to mention the track on the road. I felt comfortable, but with a constant ground connection (read: hard).

I heard Krzysztof Holowczyc once say that rally drivers "feel like the cars f*cking pee" and in this car I found that to be the case. At the corner - because once or twice I stepped a little harder - the car told me very clearly what was happening, what was under my wheels and what else I could afford. It's the same with the steering wheel.

> EE sticker - will plug-in hybrids like the Outlander PHEV or BMW i3 REx get it?

Of course, I'm not a racer. In fact, as a person of pre-retirement age, I love comfort and convenience. It was comfortable here, I felt confident in the seat, but I did not float on the pillows, as in the Citroen C5. The BMW i3s has a claw, it's tough and tough.

Power consumption

When I flew out of BMW headquarters, the odometer showed me 172 kilometers of range. I switched to Eco Pro + mode because I “didn't want to charge the same day” (= my thought). I drove a little bit in traffic, a little along the bus lane and had a little fun. The effect is that after I have driven at least 22 kilometers on the meter, I have 186 kilometers of remaining power reserve. 🙂

Electronics, i.e. driving a UFO

I have never dealt with a BMW. They pushed away those turn signals, of which only the left one should work, and even then with a “long” flash and a speed above 100 km / h (just kidding :).

But seriously: I don’t go in for sports, I don’t need to go in for sports, I don’t need to prove to anyone at a traffic light how much I cost. I was afraid that in a more difficult road situation I would not be able to cope with the rear-wheel drive. This is why I have no BMW driving experience.

So when I got into the BMW i3s, it felt like I was hit by a UFO.. A dial I don't understand, a system I don't know. The ride took me 3 seconds: "Oh, the front lever is 'D', the rear is 'R', this is not unusual. The rest are in their places too.” I started driving and… I felt at home behind the wheel.

I no longer miss the V8 group after, how do I know, 50 meters? I felt regenerative braking after 3-4 minutes of driving in traffic - I already know when to take my foot off the accelerator to stop the car "just in time". And every harder press on the accelerator pedal made me giggle like crazy.

Exactly. I keep chuckling.
