New series 4, first physical contact - what else but big "buds"?

BMW wants to position the new "four" coupe as a sports car in its own right. Let's see what this is about. We took a close look at the new fast car.

In conclusion, we will focus on the central topic of the controversy over the new model: of course, XXL kidneys dominate the physiognomy of the new 4 Series coupe. Previously, this style element was smaller, but in earlier models it was larger. More importantly, the distinctive front end really fits the new coupe well. Opening the front cover, we immediately notice the spacers that strengthen the front of the case from deformation. Under the black plastic cover we can also find black painted rear struts, which, together with the front ones, encircle the bike like scaffolding and thus guarantee greater torsional resistance.

Our view continues with a curved sideline - the Series 4 coupe is almost six centimeters lower than the trio sedan, and the center of gravity here is two centimeters lower. The taillights have a characteristic shape, above them is the “lip” of the spoiler. It improves aerodynamic compression by 1,5 percent, but is available at an additional cost.

Feeling of deep sports seats

We go to the compartment. The standard leather sports seats are comfortable and offer excellent lateral support – and come as standard very well. The driver immediately locks in a lower seating position compared to the Series 3; One of the reasons is that the center console has remained at the same height and therefore the center elbow support is higher. An important observation: despite the overtly sporty nature, the low seating position provides ample headroom for people over 1,90m tall.

The rear seats were also a matter of special concern to the interior architects. The seats are comfortable and even offer some lateral support. Here, rear legroom is decent, narrow only at the heads of passengers taller than 1,80m – still very good figures for the rear of a coupe.

Conclusion

With the "four" coupe, the people of BMW actually managed to create an independent car with a sporty character. Impeccable equipment aside, front row passengers will enjoy the premium sports furniture that comes standard.
