BMW R 1150 GS Adventure

Some dare to take the risk and go on an adventure, say, a trip around the world! Still others take it with a slightly smaller spoon and make a short trip through Europe or to a slightly more remote and forgotten Slovenian village, which is also not a fly. For all those who dare to experience the unpredictable at BMW, they now offer the large R 1150 GS touring enduro with the significant Adventure label.

It is, of course, a time-tested motorcycle, powered by the legendary boxer of the latest generation. This has strengthened over the past hundred years of evolution. So it's no surprise that we didn't have any comments on the 1150cc twin-turbo engine. See with six (perfectly spaced) gears in the drivetrain. Even the shorter first gear, which is an option here, proved to be useful, especially when we pulled out of the road onto the village trolley track.

The engine definitely has enough power, so driving on the highway is neither boring nor tiring. The average motorcyclist, safely hidden behind a large plexiglass windshield, drives quietly at 140 km / h, and if he is in a hurry, the BMW accelerates to almost 200 km / h without hesitation. But on this bike it doesn't make sense that fast.

After all, if the BMW doesn't have problems with stability or dancing - by no means, a smooth ride even on wet pavement is not its big advantage. A much greater pleasure is a leisurely journey along country roads. Across the road in Postojna or along the narrow panoramic road from Železniki via Soriska Planina to Bohinj is the right way for this BMW.

Because Adventure equipment also includes improved suspension (longer front travel, adjustable progressive spring rear shock), you can also ride on poor gravel, paved bogie roads, or less demanding terrain with ease. However, the GS does not tolerate undue enthusiasm, as with 253 kilograms and a full tank of fuel, any entanglement in the mud is pointless and difficult to control.

Of course, the enduro tire that BMW offers (the buyer chooses between road and off-road tires) will provide more traction, but they are especially suitable for driving on gravel or sand. In an off-road shoe like the Adventure now, the rear wheel quickly slams into the ground on the ground.

Therefore, the driver must judge for himself how far he can go. Sometimes just including a field can be too much. But BMW is good at forgiving the driver for the awkwardness. A thick protective plate under the engine and iron tube guards around the cylinders prevent any damage. Plastic hand guards, however, are more of a protection against branches and blackberries, as in case of inconvenience when it is pulled out of the hands, the motorcycle rests only on the left or right cylinder. It also makes it easier to lift the horse off the ground since it is already halfway up.

All these are little things that in practice prove their effectiveness and convenience for motorcyclists. In fact, we got the feeling that there is not even one thing on this bike that is superfluous or too small. Everything that you find on it is there for a reason.

All those protectors, knobs, heated levers, 12V outlets (for powering a razor, sat-nav, or primer heating) and last but not least, great working (can be switched off) ABS is what separates the good from the best. . And let's not forget the large 31 liter fuel tank, which was copied from the Dakar rally cars. Thus, gas station visits are less frequent, which means less worry and more enjoyment of a pleasant weekend trip. BMW offers the best and thus sets the standard in the world of large enduro bikes.

grade: The big BMW is the smart choice for anyone who wants to ride a lot (not just in summer) and is looking for a safe, comfortable and versatile bike. It feels good on the highway, but its charm only comes out when you turn into narrow back roads. Even if there is rubble or a paved cart path under your bikes, there will be no problems. On the contrary, the journey will be even more interesting, because then the real adventure is just beginning!

Final grade: 5/5
