BMW R 1200 GS

With such surprises and such progress, we sometimes tell ourselves that BMW should have foreseen that when the time came for the first update, the engine would be “cranked” from 100 to 105 “horsepower”. The engine is essentially the same, and we found that despite the plastic lipstick that made the R 1200 GS look more aggressive and reliable, the bike stays the way it was. Only his character has matured and matured over the years.

Well, there are also electronics and all the safety features that have evolved in recent years, but because of that, this GS is not significantly different in driving. In addition to ABS and ESA (Electronically Adjustable Suspension), you can also consider anti-skid for a complete electronic safety package. The test BMW only had ABS, and we would also choose one that would cost us a good thousand.

Something else became clear to us after the first kilometers and was confirmed later during the tests: the R 1200 GS retained all the positive features of its predecessor, namely ease and controllability in corners and incredible directional stability, of course, even if you are driving in pairs. , preferably with small luggage.

The steroid injection program that adds pepper to the engine via electronic recording is what makes you smile the most while driving! When you "open" the throttle and the two-cylinder boxer pulls continuously and decisively, the feeling is even better than before. In the mid-range rev range, the power gain is slightly reduced, but this is offset by a well-timed six-speed gearbox that is no longer as stingy as it was for this model. Survivability also demonstrates an easy rise to the rear wheel. Even in second or third gear, he will jump shamelessly at the determined command of his right wrist.

The suspension remains the same, i.e. the BMW para and duo-levers, which means essentially no nose displacement under hard braking and tuning when it comes to cornering on a country road. You can adjust the rear shock absorber setting by turning the adjusting wheel while driving.

A decent fuel consumption of 5 liters and a large fuel tank (when you turn on the reserve, you fill it with 5 liters) ensure a calm and enjoyable ride without annoying frequent stops at gas stations.

What are we talking about price? This severe, there is nothing to philosophize about; almost 13 thousand euros for the base model is a lot, and if you think of an even smaller equipment package, ABS, road package and some other things, your bill will be another two thousand less and you will be equipped with everything you need. accessories this GS can cost up to 18 thousand euros. Small consolation, but if we think that he holds the price well, the purchase is not so irrational. But it's still a big pile of money.

But, as a colleague said, there is nothing better for him every day, for a jump in the Dolomites or a week-long trip to Europe. And many others will envy you, at least quietly, if not out loud. You know we are Slovenes!
