Guidelines for organizing the safe movement of cyclists will be created The popularity of the bicycle as a means of transportation is growing, mainly in cities. The evolution of cycling also poses new challenges in terms of maximizing road safety for cyclists.

Currently, in Poland, the bicycle is becoming an increasingly popular means of transportation, mainly in cities. City bike rentals are available in many Polish cities. Due to the benefits of cycling, such as a positive impact on the environment and the physical activity of society, less wear on the road network or reduced traffic congestion, the promotion of cycling is one of the goals of public policy.  

The development of cycling also poses new challenges in terms of maximizing road safety for cyclists. “Therefore, it was necessary to conduct an in-depth analysis of the causes of accidents involving cyclists and the possibility of improving the safety of this group of vulnerable road users. Therefore, it is necessary to develop nationwide uniform recommendations for the formation of safe cycling, including effective solutions to improve the safety of cyclists, emphasizes Konrad Romik, secretary of the National Council for Road Safety.

On March 6, 2017, at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction, Konrad Romik, Secretary of the National Council for Road Safety, and Director of the Automotive Institute Marcin Slenzak signed an agreement on the development of a manual, guidelines for organizing the safe movement of cyclists. Thus, the tender procedure conducted by the IIB was completed.

“The study will provide a set of recommendations for designing a modern and safe cycling infrastructure and will approximate the existing legal status related to these issues,” notes Prof. the so-called doctor hub. English Marcin Schlenzak, Director of the Automotive Institute.

The beneficiaries will be primarily road safety practitioners, in particular traffic managers and traffic inspectors of all categories, road administrations, spatial planners, road and traffic designers, and representatives of the scientific community.

The contract assumes that testing the effectiveness of devices and solutions approved for use in the current legal status, and work on the manual will be completed in September 2018. be used after the law provides for possible changes.
