Can-Am Renegade 800 HO EFI

Watch the video.

Judging by the appearance, we find it hard to believe that Renegade seems “indifferent” to someone. They designed it in a sporty way, so the strokes are sharp. Two pairs of round eyes stare dangerously ahead, wings high above the rough-toothed tires. By focusing on the front end, we could draw a similar design to the Yamaha R6 introduced last year, which upset the motorcycle public with its aggressive appearance. This yellow color is great and we can be sure that this is the only color it will be available in.

To be clear: Despite his strictly "pointed" appearance, the Renegade is not a purebred athlete. It's built on the same base as its more workforce-oriented sibling, the Outlander, which makes it 19 kilograms lighter. It has the same Rotax V-twin engine that is a pleasure to listen to! For a lighter (sonic) performance: the two-cylinder engine of the same design and the same manufacturer, just 200 cc more, hides the Aprilia RSV1000 (

Power is transmitted via an automatic CVT transmission and from there via propeller shafts to the wheels. They are attached to individual suspensions and gas shocks provide shock absorption on each. All these intestines are clearly visible to the eye, if you bend and bend a little under the yellow (strong, impact-resistant) plastic.

When we ride in a comfortable seat, the steering wheel rests comfortably in our hands and is set high enough so that riding in a standing position does not tire the spine. On the right side, we have a gear lever where you can choose between slow or fast working range, neutral or park, and reverse. On a cold machine, the lever just mentioned moves quite hard and loves to get stuck. The engine start button is located on the left side of the steering wheel, where all the other switches and the front brake lever are also located.

On the right - only the throttle lever and the button for turning on the all-wheel drive. Yes, the rookie tester has plug-in all-wheel drive, so we can't classify it as a classic sport quad. For criss-cross driving, engage rear-wheel drive only, and when terrain becomes more difficult, simply engage four-wheel drive at the push of a button.

The automatic transmission is excellent. It provides a slow and light ride and allows you to jump without hesitation with hard pressure with your right thumb. During the test drive, the asphalt was wet, and even with all-wheel drive engaged, we could not avoid slipping. The final speed is definitely greater than what is still "healthy" for a four-wheeled vehicle, and presumably it reaches over 130 kilometers per hour! Even at speeds above 80 kilometers per hour, faster turns or short bumps can compromise stability, so final speed data for four-wheeled vehicles doesn't even matter much.

More important is the responsiveness of the engine at any speed, which is excellent for the Renegad. When climbing slowly over rough terrain, the continuously variable transmission and flexible two-cylinder engine catch up well, and the driver can devote himself entirely to driving the four-wheeled vehicle. The disc brakes work well, only the rear lever could be set a little lower. The non-slip legroom is commendable and well protected from mud showers from under the wheels.

The Renegade is a good choice for those who find the Outlander a little too "pulling" but still want to steer (also) all four wheels. Transmission, suspension and ride quality are excellent, only the price can scare someone away. Who can, let him allow it.

Can-Am Equipment

In line with the trends of recent years, Americans have also prepared a rich range of protective equipment for their cars in their own color combinations. Appropriate clothing and footwear are mandatory equipment on such a machine (in shorts and without gloves!). But if it all fits the style of the ATV, so much the better. Sturdy wide leg pants, a waterproof textile jacket and comfortable gloves, which we also had the opportunity to try on, turned out to be a good choice.
