2022 Jaguar F-Type price and specs: Lineup halved as rival Porsche Boxster focuses on powerful V8

Only three F-Type variants are now available instead of six.

The price of a Jaguar F-Type sports car just went up $30,000, but there's a good reason for that.

As part of the 2022 model year update, Jaguar has not only dropped supercharged V6 options, but turbocharged entry-level four-cylinder petrol models have also been dropped from the list.

This means that the striking two-door coupe and convertible are now offered with a V8 engine only. All variants use the same supercharged 5.0-liter V8 petrol engine, albeit in two tunings.

The 280kW/460Nm V6 engine has been dropped from the F-Type range worldwide and although Australia has decided to delay the four-cylinder version, it will still be offered in some markets.

Dropped from six classes to just three, the F-Type is now offered in R-Dynamic P450 Coupe and Convertible versions, with the coupe-only fire-breathing all-wheel-drive F-Type R heading the range.

Previous prices for the F-Type started at $127,924 excluding travel expenses for the four-cylinder, rear-wheel drive R-Dynamic coupe and reached $264,842 for the V8 R coupe.

Prices for the R-Dynamic P159,900 Coupe now start at $450, pre-road conditions, rising to $164,900 for the convertible version, while the R Coupe has barely risen to $264,966.

That starting price puts the F-Type somewhere between the Porsche Cayman S and GTS ($144,080-$180,490), but slightly more than the Audi RS5 Coupe ($153,900). The R Coupe is still more affordable than any Mercedes-AMG GT variant.

In the R-Dynamic version, the P450 V8 delivers 331 kW of power and 580 Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels only via an eight-speed automatic transmission. It has an electronic active rear differential and can accelerate to 0 km/h in 100 seconds.

The R Coupe retains the 423kW/700Nm version of the V8, driving all four wheels through the same transmission. Thanks to this, the R accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.

The R-Dynamic P450 coupe and convertible come with the R-Dynamic package, 20-inch six-twin-spoke wheels with an active exhaust system, while all F-Type models come with Jaguar's Adaptive Dynamics Tuning and Quiet Start.

Standard specification for the 2022 R Coupe now includes metallic or premium paint, a fixed panoramic roof, 20-inch XNUMX-twin-spoke alloy wheels in matte grey, an aluminum shift lever, a black exterior package, blind spot assist and tire pressure monitoring.

This is likely to be Jaguar's last V8 cheer after the British-owned India-owned marque announced earlier this year that it would start switching to an electric-only brand from 2025.

Jaguar Land Rover CEO Thierry Bolloré has confirmed that all of Jaguar's current lineups will be phased out by 2025 as the company pushes even further to the next level as a more exclusive electric vehicle brand.

This means the XE and XF sedans, the F-Type sports car, the E-Pace and F-Pace SUVs will disappear, and the future of the I-Pace EV is unknown. The flagship XJ sedan is already out of production, and Mr Bolloré closed the program for the next generation XJ shortly before it was due to debut.

The F-Type went on sale in Australia back in mid-2013 and received a major facelift in late 2019, resulting in a clearer design as well as mechanical and safety upgrades.
