Short test: Mazda6 Sport Combi CD129 Takumi

The Mazda6 is slowly entering its old years, of course, tied to some automotive standards. In its latest generation, preceding the new model, it tries to attract customers with new equipment packages and updated looks.

Passers-by are certainly not enthusiastic about its appearance, although based on a wider view, we think this is still one of the nicest vans on the market. Enough to keep the current owners of this brand, at least.

The Mazda6 continues to convince buyers with its reliability and quality, although the brand is increasingly trying to stand out from the dullness we are used to. This is why Mazda is also trying to give each model a family face.

The interior, as we're used to at Mazda, doesn't disappoint. This is not an overkill of design, but it is clear that the designers placed the elements intelligently, chose good materials, designed the joints beautifully and gave the room a uniform look.

Of course, Takumi's selected equipment, which is quite rich, also contributes to this. The exterior is nicely rounded off by 17-inch wheels and tinted rear windows. Partial leather upholstery is an excellent compromise between comfort and interior care. Warm buttocks are taken care of on cold days by heated front seats, and front and rear parking sensors warn you of evil flower beds. However, the downside of Takumi's equipment is definitely the navigation system, which will get on your nerves before you get the hang of it so well that you can easily view the selectors while driving.

The CD129 label means the same number of horses. Despite this not-so-strong power on paper, the Mazda6 is not a underpowered car. You will easily understand as well as overtake the flow of cars, and you are happy with the fact that the engine pulls from 1.500 rpm. Flexibility does not suffer or degrade quickly, even at higher speeds. It's hard to blame the engine, let alone its sound insulation. On cold mornings, it can roar quite well, and even at higher revs, there is too much noise in the cabin. As we're used to, the Mazda6's six-speed manual transmission is quite stiff and requires a determined hand, but is more precise as a result. You will have resistance issues when shifting to reverse.

A chassis is more than just an engine. Wheels with individual suspension provide good shock absorption and almost neutral position on the road. Some stiffness comes from low-profile tires on 17-inch Takumi-equipped wheels.

Spaciousness is a big argument in favor of buying a Mazda6. As we already know, the car is equipped with a huge trunk, in which, in principle, there is enough space for a large family. Add to that a divisible rear bench that can be easily folded down for transporting longer items, and this Mazda satisfies all of our roominess desires.

So: with the Mazda6 you won't fulfill your youthful dreams or cope with a midlife crisis, but you will get the right and reliable companion for many years to come. The large amount of equipment in Takumi's selected combat gear is just an added bonus. If you want a little more visibility, just wait for the new six with a more pronounced "face".
