Gas prices are falling, but theft of US gallons of fuel is increasing

It seems that gasoline thefts are no longer limited to just the tanks of vehicles. Although prices have fallen, thieves are finding new ways to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gasoline.

There is good news and bad news about gas prices. Prices are falling slowly, which is good. The bad news is that thieves continue to steal tens of thousands of dollars worth of gasoline in large quantities. As security and surveillance tightened as prices began to rise, how can incidents.

How much do petrol thieves steal?

The amount of gasoline stolen in the last two weeks is estimated to be $150,000 as the number of thefts rises. Newsweek examined activity in all 50 states and provided examples of how thieves are stealing these incredibly large quantities of gasoline and diesel. While this happens all over the country, there are places where it happens the most: Florida, Texas, North Carolina, and Colorado.

More than $60,000 worth of gasoline was stolen in Florida.

Last month in Florida, police said thieves made a homemade device to steal more than $60,000 worth of gasoline from two different gas stations. They recently arrested six people. But in another robbery in Florida, four men stole almost gallons of gasoline. Law enforcement officers found the men and detained them.

"Our law enforcement investigators, officers and partners work hard every day to protect Florida consumers and businesses from theft and other fraud at gas stations across the state," Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried said. “Whether people are trying to steal fuel, as in these situations, or credit card data using skimmers, know that our department will continue to fight crime at our gas stations,” he added.

More than 5,000 gallons of fuel were stolen in Colorado.

Also last month, a gang of thieves in Colorado stole about 5,000 to 25,000 gallons of gasoline worth more than $XNUMX. According to the gas station manager, there is surveillance video of the robbery. According to him, gasoline was being filled into vans. And this suggests that the robbers equipped the bombs with a remote control device.

North Carolina has also been hit by gasoline thefts.

In mid-March, more than 300 gallons of gasoline were stolen from a convenience store gas station in North Carolina. The estimated cost of one trip is over $1,500. Then last week the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police made numerous arrests. Police say the thieves "set up gas stations to dispense free gasoline," but did not elaborate on how the tampering was done. The head of the gasoline theft faces multiple charges.

Two incidents occurred in Texas in a week

In Duncanville, Texas, 6,000 gallons of diesel were stolen in one day. Then about 1,000 gallons of gasoline were delivered from the Fuqua Express station on I45 to Houston. This also happened in March. The stolen value is estimated to be over $5,000.

These are not random people stealing a full tank of gas from a parked car. Organized circles use many people for surveillance, distraction, or simply to protect the activity with a second and/or third vehicle.
