You can now reserve the next generation Tesla Roadster with a $50,000 deposit.

It has been 5 years since Tesla announced the Tesla Roadster, but the famous electric car has not been put into production. This may now change as the firm has a car reservation on their site with a $5,000 deposit.

Tesla has reopened its showroom, and you can give the company $5,000 (with an additional $45,000 via bank transfer within 10 days) to get a spot on the Roadster's waitlist—you know, after the people who get it "for free." The referral program for purchasing a car is closed. The deposit is fully refundable, Tesla says, but it's unclear whether it's just dollars or the full amount, making it "final."

Blind investment

The re-opening of the reservation program was pointed out by CNBC's Laura Kolodny on Sunday, and we're very curious as to who is actually willing to let Tesla hold $50,000 of your money, interest-free, for an indefinite period of time. , especially considering the number of delays and long periods of silence between messages we've seen over the past four and a half years since the model's debut.

Typically, the car company is asked about the details of the program, how many current bookings it has and how long it expects people on the list to now have to wait to get a car, but since Tesla no longer has a public relations department. you can't ask for anything like that. 

No specific delivery date from booking

This makes us wildly speculate and say that we would be surprised if someone who booked today got their car before the end of 2023. And that's if (and that's a big if given Tesla's track record with model launches) bookings are in line now, without further delay.
