What threatens non-payment of traffic police fines
If a person has been issued a fine for violating traffic rules, then it must be paid. Otherwise, appropriate rather strict measures will be taken. You should not think that if you forgot to pay a fine, the state will treat you with indulgence and after a while all this will be forgotten and you can safely continue to drive a car.
So, what does the legislation say about the mandatory payment of fines and what awaits drivers who, either because of their forgetfulness or for some other reason, refuse to transfer the amount of the fine to the settlement account of the traffic police?
What to expect for non-payment of fines
Article 20.25 of the Code of Administrative Offenses clearly describes all these issues.
If the driver did not pay the fine within the legally allotted time, and the relevant authority did not receive a document confirming the receipt of funds, then the case will be transferred to the bailiff, who may require the “evader”:
- pay the fine itself and plus one more additional fine for late payment in double the amount, but not less than one thousand rubles;
- start community service lasting 50 hours;
- administration for 15 days.
That is, without paying one fine, in fact, you will have to pay it triple.
For example, if you have not paid the minimum monetary penalty of 500 rubles, then you will have to pay 1500 rubles. If the fine was higher, for example, for driving into an oncoming lane, then you will have to say goodbye not to five thousand, but to pay as much as 15 thousand. In a word, there is reason to think - pay in the specified term and forget, or go to various courts, wag your nerves, and then pay anyway, but three times more.
If the judges come across malicious non-payers, then they can, without much ceremony, award 15 days behind bars - not a very bright prospect of spending two weeks in a cell because of an unfastened seat belt and refusal to pay 500 rubles.
Compulsory work is also not a very pleasant pastime. It is necessary to work a total of 50 hours at some useful work, for example, as a janitor or in a green economy trust, weeding flowers on the lawns and flower beds of the city. Moreover, you will work for two hours after work on weekdays and for 4 hours on weekends.
True, there are also such individuals for whom the court does not have a decree. In this case, they risk parting with their property, and we all know how collectors and bailiffs cheaply evaluate other people's property - what you bought for 20 thousand, they will appreciate it at 10, and they will take gold jewelry at pawnshop prices. There is also a risk of being banned from traveling abroad - the way abroad will be closed to you until all debts are paid.
But there is also one bright side - if a person has not paid a fine, and the state and executive bodies have not noticed this, then after two years all fines will be canceled. This will also happen if the issue of non-payment of a well-deserved punishment was referred to the bailiffs, but for two years they never came to you and did not remind you of themselves, the case will again be closed by the statute of limitations. Unfortunately, such happiness does not smile at everyone, and lately almost no one, because computer technology and the Internet have greatly simplified business management in all areas.
How and when to pay traffic fines
In order not to spoil your nerves or throw two years out of your life, in the hope that your violation will be forgotten, fines must be paid on time.
According to the new order, the guilty driver is given not 30, but 60 days to pay. Plus, you can add another 60 days to these 10 days. That is, exactly ten days are given to you to appeal the inspector's decision in higher courts.
