How dangerous is freezing rain for a car?

Such an atmospheric phenomenon, it would seem, has already become familiar, like freezing rain not only ends with ice and binds the roadbed, but also takes car owners by surprise.

Literally the other day there was a freezing rain, which in the truest sense of the word chained the cars in an ice shell. My car was no exception, it also fell into this trap. And everything happened as usual at the wrong time. An important meeting was scheduled for the morning, which had to be rescheduled for the simple reason that I could not get into the car, let alone sit down, I simply could not open the doors! I had to run home for hot water and to the car back and forth to somehow melt the ice. Gradually, a layer of water formed under the crust of ice, and I slowly began to chip off the shell, freeing the entrance to the car. True, it was possible to open the door with difficulty, or rather not from the first jerk. The door seals also froze tightly! I simply did not have time to process them before the coming winter. It is good that the handle is strong and the seals did not break. Having penetrated into the car, he started the engine, turned on the stove at full power, heated the windows and mirrors and waited for the body to warm up from the inside. Then he began to carefully chip off the shell in layers. Having freed the windshield, slowly, with the emergency gang turned on, I moved towards the car wash, where my “horse” was finally freed from the icy shackles.

Some car owners who did not have access to warm water called tow trucks and delivered their cars to the car wash. The business of car washers was going briskly - ice was knocked off the bodies with Karcher, water was wiped off, and rubber seals were treated with special silicone grease.

According to workers, a thin layer of silicone should prevent freezing of body doors and make them easy to open even after this most freezing rain or a sharp temperature drop. They took for such processing, let's say, immodestly. But car owners, stressed by the whim of nature, resignedly parted with their money, no one wanted a repetition of the cataclysm and its consequences.

While the car washers “conjured” over my car, I carefully watched their manipulations. Therefore, I drew attention to the blue pencil with which they smeared the seals of my car. Their "magic wand" was Astrohim silicone roller grease. Then I bought myself the same in a small shop when washing. I used to buy in the form of an aerosol, but this one turned out to be much more convenient, nothing is sprayed on the sides.

It is a well-known fact that silicone lubricants favorably affect the safety of rubber seals. Therefore, lubrication was also useful for processing the seals of plastic windows at home. So they fit better and are less deformed, while maintaining elasticity. Such is the "life hack".
