Brock's Champion Car Collection Heads to the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast will be home to the new shrine of racing legend Peter Brock.

Cars and memorabilia from the Brock family of Bathurst, stored for years at Yeppoon in far north Queensland, are moving south under new ownership.

The collection is expected to be part of one of the giant Movieworld or Dream World theme parks.

Bathurst winner Paul Morris, owner and operator of the Gold Coast Driving Center, which has a track and extensive display area, ruled out hosting the collection. "No, he's not coming here," he tells CarsGuide.

Brock's collection was brought together by his close friend Peter Champion, a Queensland mining magnate. Brock sold many of his cars directly to a friend who also started HDT's resurgent Holden V8 road car business.

The Champion collection includes almost all of Brock's significant winning cars from Bathurst, or replicas.

He set up the Champion's Brock Experience museum in Yeppoon, his hometown, but due to its remote location, the museum struggled to attract visitors and make a profit. The champion sold the collection and this prompted a move south to the tourist belt.

The Champion collection includes nearly every significant Bathurst Brock winning car or replica, from the 1972 Torana XU-1 to the 1980s Commodores and finally the 2002 Bathurst car. There's also a (restored) Shelby Daytona that he was killed in during a rally in Western Australia, and even a Lada Samara that Brock converted for sale in Australia.

Hundreds of memorabilia include helmets and racing suits, details and documents.

Champion's company, HDT Special Vehicles, announced this week: "The owners of Peter Brock's historic collection, Champions Brock Experience, wish to inform the public that they have entered into an agreement with a major Gold Coast tourist attraction to display and promote the vehicles. , memorabilia and for the subsequent use of the relevant intellectual property."

That's not all - fans will be able to share in what Champion calls "this historic and unique piece of Australian motor racing history". Due to the confidential nature of this step, the interested parties must first sign a confidentiality agreement.
