On Tuesday, the US media reported on the case of 61-year-old James Sykes, who was unable to stop his Toyota Prius, which had a stuck accelerator pedal.  What to do if the gas pedal in the car is stuck

A rather loud problem with sticky accelerator pedal in Toyota vehicles led to the need for a global service action by the company to eliminate the defect.

Drivers of cars with a manual transmission should not worry, because by pressing the clutch pedal, you can turn off the drive at any time and stop the car. Owners of the version equipped with an automatic transmission should be careful.

For this transmission, shift the shift lever from D (Drive) to N, i.e. neutral, then turn off the engine with the key and stop the vehicle.

If the car has a stop/start button, if you want to stop the engine (regardless of speed), hold the button for more than 3 seconds, after which the engine should stop running.

In the case of Toyota cars, nothing prevents the additional use of an emergency (hand) brake, which in these cars is mechanical and does not depend on the on-board computer.

- Accidents on American roads involving Toyota cars are being investigated by both local authorities and the concern itself. At present, there is no information that a faulty gas pedal was the cause of a traffic accident in Poland. Our market mainly sells cars with a manual transmission, in which the driver has at his disposal a clutch that disconnects the engine from the rest of the drive, explains Robert Mularczyk from Toyota Motor Poland.
