What is it and how does HUD (Head-Up Display) work?

The HUD projects critical operating data onto the windshield directly into the driver's field of vision in a clear, easy-to-read, ambient-light display with a focus point above the front hood. The height of the display can be adjusted to give different drivers an optimal field of view. The result is faster reading of information, and the driver's attention is not distracted by the road ahead. Information is projected onto the windshield using a projector and a system of mirrors located on the instrument panel. The system was developed and used for military fighter pilots. This system was first used by the Oldsmobil Cutlass Supreme in 1988.
