What threatens for giving a bribe to a traffic cop (traffic police inspector, traffic police)

Often situations arise on the road when drivers prefer to give a bribe to the traffic police inspector in order to “hush up” the case, not to go to court, not to think about how to return the rights or pick up the car from the impound lot. It is worth saying that the inspectors themselves provoke the drivers to resort to such actions, although the total control by the Department of Economic Crimes and higher management forces the inspectors and drivers to be very, very careful.

However, for many car enthusiasts, paying a bribe is often an easier and faster solution to the problem. What awaits the driver for giving a bribe to a traffic cop?

Firstly, bribes can be different, they are conditionally divided into:

  • small bribes;
  • average;
  • large;
  • especially large.

On the road, if we pay bribes, then in small amounts - no more than 25 thousand rubles. In fact, we are talking about amounts from five hundred rubles to several thousand. If you are caught giving a bribe to an inspector, then you will not be punished for traffic violations, but in accordance with Article 291 of the Criminal Code, according to which you will have to:

  • pay a fine exceeding the amount that you offered to the traffic cop by 15-30 times;
  • participate in community-forced labor for three years;
  • or the worst option - imprisonment for 2 years and a fine ten times the amount of the bribe.

But this is nothing if compared with the punishment for giving a bribe on an especially large scale - over one million rubles - which can be followed by up to 20 years in prison.

It is worth noting separately that the law is still on the driver’s side and you can challenge the court’s decision in court and prove that the inspector provoked you, threatened you with high fines and problems, and so on.

The traffic police inspector for receiving a bribe in a small amount will also face a serious punishment, and he will be significantly limited in his rights, unlike the driver:

  • 20 or 50 times the fine depending on the amount received;
  • deprivation of a position;
  • imprisonment up to three years.

But even despite such severe punishments for both drivers and inspectors, bribes will still be in use, since many people understand that it is easier for them to get rid of any problems and violations by giving a bribe of several thousand rubles. If you are sure that the truth is on your side, then you can safely declare the traffic police inspector to the relevant authorities.
