What you need to know about chains on the wheels of a car?

When winter tires reach their limit, it's time for chains. Here are some suggestions for proper use.

Shortly before midnight, little remains of the treasured ski hut when the “end” comes: on the last ascent, the wheels begin to roll helplessly along a snowy road, and only snow chains can help here. Blessed is he who in such situations carries these funds with him. But even then, not all problems were gone. In the dark and with wet and frozen fingers, installation can be torture. To avoid this unpleasant effect, it is useful for the driver to practice this in a relaxed atmosphere at home.

When traveling to winter sports centers and resorts, it is obligatory to have chains in the car. Because, on the one hand, even the best winter tire can reach the limit of its grip, and without chains, further movement is impossible, and on the other hand, when stopping on snow, with their help, the braking distance of the car is significantly reduced. , But: the maximum speed with chains is limited to 50 km / h.

The assertion that cars with dual transmissions can pass without these funds is misleading. Although a car with two transmissions is able to go further than a car with front or rear wheel drive and similar tires, sometimes its capabilities also end. Moreover, when using brakes, the drive type remains irrelevant.

In principle, snow chains are mounted on the wheels of the drive axle. If there are four driving wheels, the manufacturer usually recommends which one should be installed on. Of course, it is best for an SUV to move with chains on all four wheels. However, in many winter resorts, the use of chains in winter is mandatory - anyone caught without them, in addition to their safety, also risks being fined.

Starting benefits are not a complete alternative, but they are definitely useful in extreme situations. Examples are studded belts. Mounted on the tire, they help machines stuck in the snow start over again. However, they are not at all suitable for long trips. The so-called snow cover is more suitable in this case. The textile cover worn on the tire works reliably enough. It can travel long distances at a speed of 30 km / h. However, when systems require the use of chains, both systems do not work.

Anyone who is afraid to invest in a set of snow chains can take advantage of the opportunity offered by many dealers or car clubs to rent snow chains for the duration of their vacation. For those who do not have to use chains often, this solution is more beneficial, without neglecting traffic safety.
