What do the Nissan Leaf Christmas trees mean? [ANSWER]

The Christmas trees displayed by the Nissan Leaf meter are designed to educate the driver about economical (and environmentally friendly) driving. This is known as the "ECO indicator".

Trees - one large plus four small ones - teach the driver environmentally friendly driving and ... patience. After the first start of the machine, the trees are not visible. While driving, the semi-circular indicator will fill in or lose dashes depending on the driving style (arrow number 1 on the TOP photo).

When the driver uses ECO mode, brakes gently, accelerates slowly and uses heating/air conditioning moderately, then the largest tree will start to grow below the indicator - its successive segments will appear from below (arrow number 2).

When a large tree grows to the end, it will be “planted” - a slightly smaller tree will appear nearby (arrow number 3). You can plant up to four smaller trees as shown in the user guide:
