What is a dokatka (reserve) - what is it like

In conditions of constant savings, there is a tendency to reduce the size and weight of cars. Based on this, the requirement of traffic rules to always have a spare wheel in the car kit cannot always be met without compromising the capacity of the trunk.

From this situation, they found a simple way out - a dokatka. This is a lightweight version of the "spare tire", a small wheel with a disc, which should be enough to get to the nearest tire shop.

The stowage is usually narrower and a few inches below the main wheel. Its tread is designed for 3-5 thousand kilometers. But, on the other hand, due to the lower weight and volume, you can take several of these wheels with you on the road, especially if you go far.

It should be remembered that the dokatka is made for a specific car model. The calculation is made in such a way that the difference in the size of the main wheels and the spare tire does not affect the performance of the machine. It is clear that you will not be able to drive at full speed, the maximum speed on the dokatka is 80 km / h.

There are some tips to follow when replacing a damaged wheel with a stowaway:

  • do not put it on the drive axle if you have a front-wheel drive car;
  • for rear-wheel drive cars, the dock should be placed on the front axle, and electronic auxiliary stabilization systems should also be turned off, which will worsen the car's handling;
  • in ice, it is highly not recommended to use a dokatka, since it has a reduced grip area;
  • it is advisable to ride a dokatka in winter only if you have good winter tires on all axles.

Due to the difference in the size of the main wheel and the stowage, a huge pressure falls on the entire undercarriage of the car, the differential and shock absorbers are especially affected. If your car has additional auxiliary systems and gearbox modes, then you need to turn them off for a while, because the sensors will not correctly process information about the angular speeds of disk rotation and constantly give an error.

Dokatka must be used strictly for its intended purpose. Driving it on a regular basis is detrimental to your car. Do not buy a dokatka if the difference in diameter with your stock wheels is more than 3 inches.
