What does an EGR cooler do?

the chamber breaks chemical bonds, forming new molecules. Nitrogen oxides (NOx) and

ozone (O3) is formed when this heat combines nitrogen and oxygen atoms from

air.
NOx can form

smog, and when mixed with water can form acid rain.
The ozone layer protects us from

ultraviolet light, but at ground level this gas can cause breathing problems,

especially for those with sensitive lungs/respiratory problems.

sits between the turbo and the EGR valve.

The body has

a hollow tube or series of tubes through which hot exhaust gases pass.

These pipes are surrounded by several coolant passages. Heat
is

through the walls that separate

exhaust and coolant, supplying cooler, inert exhaust gases ready for

lower peak combustion temperatures. Exhaust gas flow through EGR

transferred to the vehicle's cooling system. This extra warmth is just

dissipated through the radiator. However, since the EGR cooler connects

exhaust and cooling systems of your engine, malfunctions inside the cooler can lead to

loss of coolant, overheating and engine damage, among other failures.

What happens if your EGR cooler fails?
